opinions needed

I am thinking of getting an 04 WRX. My CL-S is starting to get very creaky and somewhat booring to drive on back roads. I love the luxury and smoothness but want a little more in the performance arena. I am getting a MDX at the end of the summer so I'll still have a "nice" vehicle. I am wondering what any of you have heard good and bad about the WRX.....

Thanks!

Look at the STi and the EVO unless you are wanting to spend less.

thats it... a subjective negative! thats all you can come up with. at least say something like, the interior isnt as luxurious.. or the inside has less cargo space.... or something... but it doesnt look good! isnt that a matter of personal opinion.. i was looking for some "objective" comments. yes i titled it opinion but i want to know about real life events/findings.

example: the cls has hairy seats, the sunroof squeaks, the dash board makes all kinds of noise... therefore my "opinion" is that it is a very good car with some very minor nuicances (sp?) that has good power and ok handling with some entry level luxury. etc etc. something with some concrete evidence from real experience.

now that we're all on the same page does anyone have something helpful to say? ive checked all kinds of online forums looking for problems but cant seem to find many.... mostly just hearing about the tranny on 01-02 models and only from people that beat the hell out of their car. so far to me it seems like a pretty solid choice w/o all the creature comforts of the cls and with a little extra fun packed into it.

once again.. thanks for your help.

your friendly neighborhood racing stories mod.

Well if you want a regular WRX id go for that too. they are still fast and damn fun to drive. I think its a pretty comfy car and if you get the better sound system its good for stock. course i would get the 5spd, thats what i test drove.

Damn Vin, that was quick!

Congrats on your purchase. I don't know if I could ever see myself going from a CL to a Subaru, but that's just me.

You got the right color though. I think the car looks much better in black. Hit me up next time you're in the ville, I wanna check it out!

And post some pics!!!

Do you have a Dinan Chip? My dads old 98 740iL was limited to 128. The speedometer read somewhere around 135ish, but you were truely only doing 128.

I really think that the previous gen model look better, less bloated. But, I'm sure that it will be a blast to drive.

Holy front wheel gap batman!

Very sweet. I've been thinking about trading in my TL-S for a Z or a STi myself... same reason as you.. fun factor (RWD/AWD and manual tranny). We'll see....

Anyway, good luck... looks good!! BTW, check out www.nasoc.com when you're ready to mod!!

i thought about the sti too. they are on order of course, so hard to get and one of the reasons for looking for a new car was to lower payments (lowered over 120/month) on one car to make room in the "salary cap" for an mdx or maybe a rx330 (who knows).

i ended getting 16100 for my cl, it had about 10 door dings (a few good ones), 54000 miles, no nav, no spoiler, newer tires with about 15k on them, cai (which doesnt do squat to the price), and some sap on the hood from a pine tree. the leather was getting a little crackelly too and i cleaned and conditioned it about 1x per month.

the wrx has almost every option except carbon fiber interior accents, guage cluster (it does however have a turbo guage), and upgraded stereo (i did that myself). other than that it has the premium package which includes heated seats, mirrors, wipers, power everything, including moonroof, except seats, 6 disc/tape head unit, 5 MT, "armreast extention" (dont ask), momo steering wheel, 16" rims (will be gone shortly), security system/remote entry (real security system without having to add a shock sensor =)), air filtration system, and i think thats it as far as options... out the door i got it for 25300.

so far ive had it for 5 days and its a blast.... the break in period is killing me i have to keep it under 4k till 1000miles (recommended anyway by subaru and clubwrx.net). all in all i miss some of the little things like steering wheel mounted controls, memory/power seats, auto climate control, little more room, better cup holders, but then i just hit the gas and a corner and all those little things dont seem like such a big deal. the wrx is truly a fun car to drive. you can really toss it in a turn and feel totally confident. comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges though... just go test drive one for shits and giggles. who knows you may like it?!

Congrats on the new car. They do look like fun.

Now just wait, want to talk about creaks and rattles? I don't know of any WRX owner that doesn't have them.

no little ones yet. i really dont mind four doors... it is still quick as hell. and 4 doors has its advantages over 2. it may take away from the sporty look just a bit but in my opinion the hood scoop more than makes up for that. and unlike a mustang it is a functional hood scoop =) the backseat is slightly thinner, ie. less shoulder room between 2 people but the headroom is better. the back window doesnt slant at as much an angle as my cl did. the leg room is about the same but i dont sit back there so...

like i said.. 2 totally different cars. bottom line wrx is more sporty and the cl is more luxurious. thats really the difference.

hey vinny im thinking of doing the same thing you did. go from a CLS to a WRX (non-STI). I really would like to get 03 if possible or if there are any left. only difference with me and you is I'm not getting another car. I love the CLS but I'm young and I want a more athletic car if you get what I'm saying. The tranny problem is really bugging me and I don't have too much money to work. I think the WRX would be a good choice on my budget.

i live in gainsville, 3xit 44 off of 66.
liquid_x- there are 2 yellow 03's at the dealer i got mine and subaru is offering 0.0 financing on 03's to make room for 04's and sti's

ricardo- the sti is awesome but i dont think i could go from an acura to a sti as a daily driver.. way too harsh of a ride for me.
