New Brakes for 2001 CL-P

It is just about time for new front brakes. I'm thinking about not paying Acura some ridiculous about of money to do the job and having a mechanic friend do them instead. What type of brake pads are on the CL -- semi-metalic??

Has anyone had particular success with one brand of brake pads on the CL over another? Should I purchase Acura OEM brake pads? I'm looking to save some money but not looking for problems.

Thanks in advance for input.

Brake pads are free or brake pads and labor to change the brake pads are free? For how long? I never heard that brakes are under warranty.

Brake pads are not covered under warranty.

Aem only makes rear pads for our car.

Try tire rack and their green stuff brake pads. They have a good reputation and are reasonably priced. Cool color too.

I don't think the more aggressive redstuff pads are available for front and rears right now.

If brake pads aren't free how come NOVAwhiteTypeS was able to take his car into the dealer (he's got around 30k miles on it) and get free new brake pads installed when he had his 30k service done? Isn't there a TSB about our brake pads or something and that's why dealers will just replace them without charge?

I want to know because I could use new brake pads, and I do have some shuddering during the 40-20mph slowdown range but I just ignore it.

There is a TSB about our brake pads. The compound that they are made of causes excessive heat buildup and warps the rotors. That's the shudder you feel. Take it back to the dealer for resurfaceing of your rotors and the new pads. It should be under warranty.

I just had this done! Acura resurfaced my rotors under warranty However they did not replace my pads, more than likely because they were still good...at any rate, I do know of a TSB about brake pads just like Marine1 said...

I did alot of research before getting brake pads for my TLS. I heart the Metal Master pads, and all metallic/semi-metallic pads are bad for the rotors. I've only heard good things about Porterfield and Endless pads.

I went with Porterfield. Some other guy has Endless pads, he claims they work well. As for my pads, they are being installed this week probably, so I'll let you guys know.
