New axle time

What are decent replacement axles?

Rock auto has CARDONE Select, EMPI & A-1 CARDONE, $44, $53, $88 respectively.
Napa are around $80.

Fuzzy.....i've used the A-1's in the past, good value for the quality of the axles.

Napa.
Since you did not jumble napa in with all the other brands you already know where you should spend your money.

I bought these cheap ones in april 2010 and they are still ok.
Knock on wood.

You might want to PM Rajca about this. He has personally gone through 4+ over the past couple weeks.

I went with Auto Zone axles. So far so good, and theyve been in there for about 10k so far, maybe more (I can't keep track of mileage anymore).

Try this guy in Gainesville. They are American made and he provides UPS shipping labels to return the cores if they are OEM. $319 shipped with FL sales tax back in Sep/Oct 2010 for a sixspeed.

Its not hard if youve swapped axles on other FWD cars. The most annoying part was separating the ball joints.

raxles are overrated, i had a set but they eventually tore at the boot from normal driving and they wouldnt warrant it. so much for a lifetime warranty...

ive gone through a few autozone axles, you'll get the occasional shitty one (vibrations at certain speeds), but you can take it back and swap it out. it just sucks that you have to spend time removing it.

Yeah, I believe you called them 'junk' in the thread below.

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-problems-fixes-70/oem-verses-oe-axles-788138/

As a result, I googled raxles and turned up more positive then negative regarding their quality.

fuzzy, if you want to get the local retail axles, go for it. If you want to keep your money in the local economy, for the extra money, these are a viable alternative, to each his own.

I don't want to have to be replacing these things every 20K miles since I'm not installing them. I've got 102K out of the OEM ones.
Is that the reason they are $600 each from Acura? Because they last?

I know oem are the only axles I've seen that have the damper on them.
Any time you can take vibration out of rotating parts they will last longer.
I don't think the oem axles would last any longer even at the joints if they didn't have the dampers.
They still snap.

When will the cheaper axle company's be a little more competitive with the oem and come out with the damper designed axles

This is the reason I went with the 'middle of the road' choice I found with Raxles. The price of the OEMs from the dealer were f-ing ridiculous. I had about 117K on my OEMs when I decided to replace because of a slight vibration I narrowed down to my passenger side axle. Call Marty, he's a personable guy who will answer any concerns one may have. He will only accept OEMs as a core, IIRC.

The Raxles people build their products with the dampers on the shaft of the axle.

Fuzzy, one of my CV joint boots just ripped last week. 175,000 miles on the original ones.

I just picked these up over the weekend. Have not had a chance to install them.

Same here, changed one yesterday, clicking noise with a broken "U" turn and low and behold, ripped boot on the axle. changed the other side before the winter. Seems like the Hot weather has something to do with it, because I think my Honda Pilot needs an axle too.

I had terrible driveline vibration after slamming on coils and replaced with a couple from advanced as well. Been great since!

i dont get why youre rolling your eyes. im merely stating my personal experiences. mine didnt come with dampeners either. granted i went with them based on the fact that i researched a bunch before i bought and there was a lot of praise for them.

mine ripped at the boot, so i figured, why not use my lifetime warranty... but apparently there are a bunch of situations where the warranty isnt honored and ripped boots are one of them.

fyi i dont beat the crap out of my car nor drive it every day.

IMHO, for the folks making power... go to the driveshaftshop. for the folks looking for an oem replacement, go to your local autozone/napa/advanced auto.

Because when one uses a broad perjoritive word like 'junk' it discolors the utility of the product unfairly. I have had the exact opposite of your experience and have nothing but satisfaction with the product.

Research is a good thing, I did the same, throughly. The dampers were the first thing I inquired about with Raxles because of the feedback some individuals were writing about vibration tendencies of the local retail foreign axles. Don't know why the dampers were not included with your axles, that was unfortunate. Maybe it was a change they made after your purchase.

Again, this was unfortunate. I have had boots go on newer OEM originals (under 10K miles) on other Honda cars. I asked the techs that replaced the part at the dealership, How the hell can this happen on such a new part? There response was that it just happens and they see it alot, with no real explanation. Then they replace the defective axle under warranty and I proceed to get 110K out of that one.

Nor do I.

Actually I am going back tomorrow. After looking under my car I may not need axles. Maybe ball joints, or something in the steering rack worked loose.
