XS Power headers.....awwww

I hope this is the only crack. Turns out this is the cause of my car sputtering when I let off the gas. They said that the crack is pulling air into the header which sets the O2 sensor off which then causes the computer to lean the car out canceling out the AFC. Technolgy is beautiful....

ahhh for the price what can you expect. sadly you can still buy another pair and not ever be at 1/3 the cost of comptechs.

Easy enough to re-weld. I'm considering grabbing a pair. I'd have them checked out and maybe have we welds strengthened before putting them on.

I pulled off a set of DCs for a member that had them on for about a year because they were cracked in a few spots

this actually brings to my attention, what if the rears crack? there's no easy way to check them. i think the fronts would be prone to cracking faster (say if you got rain on them), but the rears, you would actually need to take off just to look at them to see..

That crack isn't from wear or water. It's a poor weld at the weld seem.
I was expecting it to happen to someone 1 of these years.
At least it's the front header & any welder can weld that no problem while they are on the car.

yea i hope its just the front. When I put the car in the shop in a couple weeks i might just have them pull the whole thing off and reweld it all again.

yeah i know that, but constant heat and fast cooling will compound the problem on a weak joint

Brand new sir, installed them last june. They probally look like that because all of the rain and snow that has hit them. Then what appears to be paint on them is actually the spark plug cover thing falling off and hitting the header and melting.

You may want to consider getting them ceramic coated while they are off . . . that is if you have a local shop that can get it turned around quickly.

it gets worse. Now because of this the car is throwing random misfire codes on all 6 cylenders. I cleared them out but then i see that the headers are starting to crack on one of the other "pipes". Im pretty sure they are leaking in the back to now.

Would a metal adhesive work like JB Weld or something along the lines of that, or even radiator patching material?

Nope. JB Weld won't do shit. At least not for very long. You know how hot that exhaust manifold air gets?

Anyhow, trini, you already cheaped out on the headers, don't cheap out on the welds. Have a muffler shop do those quick welds. My best friend owns a shop and has repaired exhaust manifolds and headers that were cracked to shit. the people thought maybe a little jb weld or some kinda concrete adhesive would do the trick. not gonna happen. I've seen it countless times. from ricer kids in civics and integras to off road junkies in jeeps. just have a shop weld those headers. at most they should charge you maybe $100 and thats if they have to remove them to weld them if the back ones are cracked also. good luck tho!

Yep about all you can do.

BTW to ANYONE that says you get what you pay for, XS is cheap, they suck etc......

This is the ONLY case of this happening. Something to keep in mind.

I still adhere to that. To each his own and they are a bargain but let's not forget about sub par flex pipes and cheap bolts, nuts and welds. The diff between Comptech and XS IMO is night and day...

Dang, I did not what to hear this now, as I am ording a set next week. But as some of you stated it's a very isolated thing.

Sorry to hear it man! How long did it take you to put them on? Hope it does not take too much to get them off. Did you really notice much differance with them, power wise?

If it was the one crack I'd take my wire feed to it! It might look like bird shit when I'm done but it would not leak anymore!
If there are multiple cracks it might be easier and cheaper to get new ones!
