Need some opinions on a 2k3 wing...
Hey guys,
I'm going to buy a 2k3 cls, and I'm not sure if I should add the wing as an option. I'll probably get the black if that matters. Does anyone have a thought about the wing? Maybe wish they bought it, or wish they did not? How about some pictures of a black one with a wing...
Anythough would be helpfull. I'm leaning towards getting it, but I'm not sure what it's going to look like.
Thanks everyone...

It's really a personal thing. I went without the wing because I think it's a little more sophisticated looking without it...
...then again, I think the car is a little more aggressive looking with the wing.
I contemplate adding a wing, but have not done it yet. You can buy a Acura genuine wing aftermarket for $500 or a quality knockoff for about $250.
Do a search and check out Chikai and Smitty's instructions on how to add on a wing.
If you buy the car without it you can always add it on later -- if you buy the car with it you are stuck: you have drill holes in your trunk lid that won't look too good when the wing is removed!

I initially did not get a spoiler because I think the car does look more "sophisticated", but now I wish I had. I like the aggressive/sporty look of it and the ass just doesn't look right without it... one of these days I will add one on.
i dont like it.
but who cares what i think...
I say WAIT. You can always add the wing but its not quite as easy to take it off.
Chill with the car for a bit and if later on you still want it... you can get them pretty cheap aftermarket.

It's really a matter of personal taste.
I got the spoiler, 'cause I always wanted a red sportscar w/ a rear spoiler (and sunroof, and parchment interior, etc... well... you get the idea). I think it looks good, and that's all that matters.

Mine didn't have the spoiler when I got it, but I did add an aftermarket knock off that looks just like the real deal. I am VERY GLAD I got it because before the wing I couldn't figure out where the back of the car was when I was backing up. Now it is EASY to find!

I feel the exact opposite way about this subject. I got the spoiler & now I wish I did not get the spoiler. I really am starting to like the look of the CL without the spoiler. The sophisticated look is starting to grow on me. The only thing is if I remove the spoiler, the holes would be a problem. I guess I could have a body shop fill the holes though. I am seriously thinking about doing it. Any opinions guys?

Personally, I'm very happy I added the spoiler. I bought the car w/o because that's all they had on the lot. I wasn't about to purchase one from Acura either. About a month ago, Smitty and I did an aftermarket spoiler install (for full instructions, and I have to say it definitely cleans up the rear end a lot. I never liked the rear over hang of the trunk, it just didn't look sporty enough. Here...check out these pics and decide for yourself:
I bought a '98 2.3CL without a wing and loved it... finally succumbed to my wife's "nagging" that a spoiler would look more sporty. Bought one on Ebay had it painted and it is sitting in our bedroom uninstalled. I really like the look of no spoiler - I don't think the factory one is especially well suited to the car's design. When I had a Maxima SE, I always wanted to take the wing off. Should have listened to my inner self and not my wife... oh, well I'm only out $200... unless someone buys it from the "blackmarket" section here!
I didn't have one when i bought my car. I decided to get it since i got such a good price at www.spoilerdepot.com
I paied 198.00 painted and shipped to my house. Very happy with the quality and perfect paint match. Looks more sporty with it on .

Since you're getting a black car, perhaps putting a spoiler on wouldn't be as noticable opposed to a light colored car. I would still get it though. I've had a spoiler on every one of my cars, I wouldn't have it any other way.
I personally don't like the TL or the CL, or even the RSX without the wings. My oppinion is to get it and get the Factory wing so the car warranty covers it. Then aftermarket paint and installation are never a problem.
I think the darker color CLSs don't need them, but they look good. Silver and white, the rear is too plain.
However, with the 03 taillights I think silver and white look good without the spoiler. The 03 taillights really help the rear.

Guess I should not fill up my gas tank, 17.2 gallons of gas weighs a lot too.
the CL-S spoiler is most definately not functional...there is no way that spoiler, or 99% of any spoiler on production cars are ever usefull in any way beyond cosmetic..the rice boys with their spoilers are just wasting their time and money....unless you have a car that you race at speeds of over 100 mph consistantly, what use will a spoiler ever give you....to see the benefits of a spoiler on a car, the velocity of the air going over it must be VERY fast...faster than most production cars ever go for more than a few seconds at a time...not to mention the shape of the CL-S spoiler...its not a slanted spoiler like USEFULL spoilers are, the CL--S spoiler does not create a surface for the air to hit...the CL-S spoiler is more like an airplane wing, very rounded front and flat in shape, and not only that but our cars are front wheel drive, why would you want to put downforce on the back to only cause more lift in the front and cause even worse traction than we already get....unless you drive a viper or something in that league or better, a spoiler is useless IMO
to avoid any confusion, by saying "rice boys" im not talking about CL-S drivers with spoilers or any car with factory spoilers, im talking about the guys with civics with huge double decker wings, etc.

I remember there was a multi-page thread on this a while back where the various posters got real up in arms defending or attacking this issue. I highly doubt that this is a functional accoutrement.
in regards to the weight issue, the OEM spoiler from Acura weighs significantly more than the aftermarket spoiler from spoilerdepot.com
I remember reading someone guessing the weight to be:
OEM -> 40-45lbs
Aftermarket -> 20-25lbs
Remember, if you're going to do this mod, you'll need to either adjust the spring tension for the trunk lid, or replace the springs altogether. I have the adjustment/replacement tool for sale. See my sig.

IMHO, the back-end is too plain without the spoiler. When I picked up my car, they forgot to install the wing. I had to bring it back a few days later to have it put on. Having possessed and driven the car in both states, I'm glad I did, but that's just me.
I personally wouldn't debadge the car or put on body kits, but others would, and they'd swear up and down that it looks "better". Well, whatever. It's personal taste. The only thing you really need to ask is whether you like the look of the car better with or without the spoiler. Take all the pictures and opinions into account but make your own decision. That's the only way you'll be happy with the end result.
