Need Some Advice . . .

So, as many of you who know me know, I absolutley love my car. BUT, I cannot stand the fact that it is an automatic and find myself looking at manual cars just about every weekend.

So, I found a six speed CL-S for sale here in Austin. It is Silver, not my first choice, but looks good nonetheless. It has no navi, and has 18k miles. The asking price is $24k, but I can get it down to about $20k. It allready has some work done to it (S2000 shift knob, new yokohama tires, comptech exhaust, and looks lowered-might have more, but not sure). Should I go ahead and trade my car in for this six speed??

Grayson! now didn't you tell me you were off the 6 speed! I agree that you would prefer a 6 speed over any CL auto regardless of the mods, it's still an automatic. But I wonder if you'll tire of the CL, since there are newer offerings since the CLS came out. Plus I know you like dark colors, why not wait for the color you want, silver ain't bad but... I like black, red or anthry. I'd only get it if the price is right, there are others out there.

Anyway, I've looked at that car. They had it initially at like $27k, now it is at $25k. They've had about a month I think. I didn't know it had those mods. didn't look lowered to me, but you probably know better than me.
I'd offer $22,500 and go from there. Remember dealers expect mo' money than individuals. Trading it in is takin a beatin', but selling it yourself quickly may not be easy.
I'm actually surprised they haven't sold it, probably due to their pricing. good luck!

Mileage - good
Certified warr - good
Color - fair to good, better than white/tan IMO.
Dealer - poor IMO
Asking price - poor
Tradein - poor
No Navi - ? depends if you really wanted it.
VIN# - seems like it was an early 03, no big deal, but I like the later ones.

PS - if you get it get me a deal on the anthracite trunk lid on the 03 CLS automatic they have!

6-speed>automatic

If you can afford it, do it. If you can afford more you might want to think about something faster, RWD, more possibilities (G-Coupe, BMW, something), but if you are trying for a pretty even type swap I guarantee you will love it. Totally different car. Silver isn't that bad, It has actually grown on me. I have an Anthracite, but I think if I had the choice silver would be 2nd, black 3rd, white 4th, SMR last. I hate red. I test drove a white/tan interior right, nice sunny day, it felt like I was in a tanning booth it was so frickin bright. The white has actaully grown on me too and I hated white almost as much as cherry red, def have to be black interior though. Sorry, I am rambling, too much coffee...........Have you test drove the 6 yet?? Do it and I bet you'll be hooked. I'll never buy another auto again unless it is for a specific reason, work truck, wifey can't drive stick, etc,.. def never an auto on anything even remotely sporty.
Peace --Joe

The local dealerhisp tried to sell me a 6 speed, but as soon as he heard that I had navi he said "once you go navi, you'll never go back"

He's right

Are you ending upside down? Are you willing to take the hit? Why not keep the car till ~100k miles?

If you already have navi, don't do it. Wait for a 6 with navi. If you don't care about navi do it. The longer you keep your ride the more it will depreciate. In the end you will HAVE to get rid of your auto at 100K but with a 6 speed you can ride till the wheels fall off (since the tranny won't). It might be a nice sized hit now, but in the long run (if you plan on keeping it a while) it will pay off. At the same time remember there are other cars out there. Being in the south rear wheel drive would be nice since we have no snow. Are you sure you won't need 4 doors anytime soon (ie family on the way)?

Luckily I am in an equity situation-which will help with the down payment. I don't have navi now and am not activaly looking for it. Would it be nice to have, hell yeah, but it is not a necesity for me right now.

Also, I am only 21, so no family is in sight right now.

About the rear-wheel drive, I have been looking for some time, and have come to the conclusion that in this price range, I can't really find anything that has the refinment, quality, durability, and luxury that this Acura has. So, it looks like this one is the winner.

Also, it already has Comptech springs, exhaust, and headers, S2000 shift knob, AEM CAI, and is wired for amps already. On my short test drive yesterday, I fell in love!!

Ummm, there aren't too many 6 speeds with navi, I think like under 3,000?? Also, the CL is fine if you happen to have a kid, would be a pain in the ass w/ only 2 doors all the time, but there is plenty of room in the back for a baby seat or 2 smaller kids.

6 speeders total around ~2,7000; I expect just 30% of them are Navi.

So they are rare.

if you want it & if you can afford it, get it. the 6 speeds are rare. if you intend to keep the car more than 4 years & you WANT a manual get one. life is short. don't wait till you're 50 whining about the things you missed out on.

as for the navi..... i'm sure its a bit of work, but i don't see any reason you can't add it if you really want it. i didn't want it. i was happier to find a 6-speed w/out.

Yeah, he should still probably wait for a year or two when people's leases run out.

There will be a lot more 6 speeds for sale.

I just picked up a lease return that was originally sold in 09/2002. CL-S 6MT, Navi, and 17.9K miles. I think some will start flowing in from here.

just wait till theres a perfect 6 speed then go for it, in the mean time i say stick with the automatic and spend the extra money on supercharger or some nice rims, theres a lot of things you can do to a cl with enough money (custom bodykit)

IMO, not all dealers like to have the 6 spd in stock. I know that we all like the 6 spd here at forum. I just trade in my 03 CLS AT (25K no navi) w/ 03 CLS 6M/T Navi (3K miles) couple months ago. The dealer is really want to get my car since they can not sell the one I have right now.

If you think the price is right, since u will trade in, just go for it. or otherwise, take your time, and try to sell yours private party and hopefully by that time, that car is still available.

just my $0.02

Well, the car is basically sold. I am now waiting to find out what Acura is going to say about my car-long story-I will tell when this all calms down and everything irons out.
