Need radar detector help guys!!!!!!

Ok so today I get another damn ticket. This ticket was given to me by the same cop that wrote me a ticket less than 2 months ago. I live in the Houston area and recently the cops are out of control (zero tolerance). I currently own a Beltronics 916. This is a low end radar detector that until recently had served me well. What pissed me off os the radar detector never went off either time this guy gave me a ticket. This time I confronted him about it. He then allowed me to see the radar gun and informed me he shoots K and pulses. My detector should have caught that but did not. After the first time I ran into this issue with him i bought the Valentine One. It worked great but was not loud enough. I often drive with the windows down and the stereo loud. THis has not been an issue for my current Bel which is anoyingly loud, but atleast can be heard.

What i need to know from you guys that already own radar detectors is how please you are with them. i am considering two units.

Passport 8500
Valentine One again

With both of these I am considering an exteranl speaker if needed.

What do you guys think?

Get the V1 and get the external audio adapter.
Hook it up through your stereo.

.... And slow the hell down for a bit.

Wow, the V1 isn't loud enough? Are you clinically deaf? I like my music loud, too, but even at 2/3 on the V1, I can still hear the warning.

V1 hands down, by the way.

or here is another option...

...slow down, turn the music down, roll up the windows to save gas (and me from hearing your music), and be respectful of the law. Simple rules in life.

Guys were not talking about high speeds, atleast not in the CL. That occurs on the bike. At the most 5-10 MPH over typically, but even that is too much in Houston now days. The radar detector never goes off and both times the guy wrote me the ticket for the same exact amount.

So it is looking like the V-1

If he said he shoots K and pulses....That means he's using instant on. No matter what detector you have you still may get bagged. Unless you can pick up the signal from a car in front of you. Were you the only one on the road when he tagged you both times? Was this guy in the same area? You should know he has a hard on for speeding & slow down in this area. Be thankfull he's not using laser.....& a good note the V1 has outstanding range on K band. I have picked up signals from 2+ miles out.

Awesome, That is what I am hoping for. I want the car 1 mile ahead to get shot and me pick it up. That in itself would be a huge help. For now I am planning to change my route.

Yeah the lawyer I typically hire says the courts are back logged. I found this entertaining since the cop told me nothing had changed at all and there were no quotas.

I would be ashamed to admit that was what I did for a living. Protect and serve my ass.

Slow down and perhaps you'll have more money in your pocket as your wasting it on Gasolilne, high insurance premiums, attorney fees and court cost ! Not to mention the STRESS your applying on your mind and soul..............

You seem to be well versed with "lawyers" too !

Oh btw: Valentine 1 without a question......Yep the pigs are out there like flies on cow snitz !

if you get a chance to go to court (no need for a lawyer in traffic court, really) usually you can request an audience with the DA and offer to plead innocent of the charges in exchange for an "administrative fee" to the courts and an agreement to take a Defensive Driving class. This serves the purpose of the ticket (raining revenue for the courts) and helps you get LOWER insurance premiums by having a DD certificate. This is what I did in Atlanta when they clocked me at 53 in a 35. Just be sure to go cleanly dressed and be respectful and the DA should have no reason to not allow this.

I have original Passport 8500 and it still serves me well on both G35 and SC AV6. It saved me at least 15 times. I might try V1 in the future due to arrows convenience, however.

i have a passport 8500, as far as detecting pig bastards it works great(k,Ka usually at least .75 miles of warning, laser ur screwed no matter what) however if u have a gsm phone it will trip the laser detector which will annoy you to the point of wanting to break the thing, so if u have gsm get the V1

The gsm phone may also screw the V1 up. They both are so similar with laser. I get a laser false's passing through electric toll boths from the 8500 & the V1.

Actually,
My Lawyer only charges $100.00 for speeding.
If I take defensive driving it cost me
$60 for court cost
$40 for the course
and 6 hours of my life
I prefer the lawyer route personally. Also in Texas insurance companies are starting to count defensive driving on your record as a ticket. So DD or a ticket have the same nagative effect here.

Slowing down is not an option in Houston unless you want to be run over or take 2 hours to get from one side to the other. Keep in mind it is roughly 80 miles across Houston.

I have not experienced any problems with my 8500 and my Nokia GSM phone. They are typically about 2' apart.

Driving smart and watching the mirrors is much more important then having the best detector in your car.
I won’t go anywhere without my V1, but it’s common sense that helps the pocketbook more.

Just the other day I was cruising down the road doing about 65 in a 40 zone on a local road at 6AM on the way to work.
I caught a glance of a “local yokel” fast approaching from the rear.
Luckily I downshifted without touching the brakes and I got down to the limit before he could get an accurate speed on me.
He followed me for about a mile and then turned off.
V1 didn’t do SHIT in this scenario because local cops don’t use radar in PA.

yeah, but you get the insurance reduction from having taken the course. no lawyer is gonna do that. and besides, with you sitting in a DD class room you are less likely to get more tickets never heard of counting a DD course as a ticket, sounds like you need to change insurance companies. Or move out of Texas, where it sounds like you are already in a "bad way" with the law!

Can someone please explain to me why you're screwed if shot by a laser regardless of what detector you have? I plan on getting a detector in the next 2 weeks and I want a V1.

laser hits you and immediately reports the speed back to the radar, therefore if your laser goes off and it is a legitimate laser radar hit then look at your speedometer cause that's what you got caught going. It is almost impossible to detect laser in time to reduce speed but i have the passport and have avoided laser traps. I guess like everyones been saying here, intellegence plays a big part in not being caught.

If you want laser protection get the Passport 8500 x50 with the addition of the Passport laser shifter. This is the best protection you can get.

The shifter does exactly that it shifts the laser beams to give you enough time to slow down before the police get a reading. By the time either the V1 or 8500 sound off to laser, you have most likely already been tagged. The laser is instant on and a very narrow beam aimed directly at your grill and headlights.

This also may get you pulled over. If the cop gets an error on the laser gun, or otherwise can't read your speed, he might just pull you over anyway. To see what's up.

Downtown (after the "remodel"), has become a haven for cops who have nothing better to do other than write tickets. Must be because they have to pay for their new building with their new gadgets and Mr.White probably has to find a way to cover up all the expenses coming up from his stupid Safe Clear program.

Constables have been even worse recently. I live in Seabrook and got a ticket for driving (literally 10') on a shoulder to turn right from 146 to Red Bluff. This is after I sit there and see the *(&#@!$% cop watch 12 (yes I counted) other cars go by driving from waaay back to turn right. So I figured I was safe. Guess not! As soon as I pulled out to get onto the lane he pulls out in front of me, blocks me and turns his lights on. I made the mistake of asking, "Well, dear kind sir, why did you pull me over after watching all those other vehicles drive even more on the shoulder?" Yeah, that was a big mistake too...

I had a Passport 7500 up until last year...have had no issues reading cops from at least 1/2 mile away even with pulses. However, careful with the new units and the Camaros. They pulse at the last minute and there's nothing that will protect you. And in Laser, it's LOS, by the time you even pick it up, you're toast. They might as well have a voice prompt telling you, "Warning, laser alert...you're screwed!!! Please get your checkbook."

I now have the x50 and love it. However, Houston is bad for a lot of K-band noise. And now with laser cruise control and strong LED tail lights, I get freaked out from time to time because they set off the detector as well. Just gotta watch out...
