8500 has much better range than 7500, but either is a great buy. I've owned both. I wont pay extra $100 for a locater on the V1 that is useless anyway. Passport has just a bit better range than V1, but not much.

v1 or passport.

you could get a custom v1 install where they hide the radar and give true 360 deg. protection.

dough for the install though.

I had the K40 dash model a while back. It was ok, but had no features, & the range of teh V1, 8500, or even the 7500 just killed it. The only speeding ticket I ever got was while I was using the K40. They also say they will pay your ticket. Which is true, but has many restrictions on it.

8500 is nice, except for laser...got a ticket for that, no warning with ANY detector (V1 fans just admit it) and there is more and more laser in use all over the country, but it is still low, like 1 out of every 20 real signals I get, the heyday of speeding is slowing to a close as more cops get laser and improved laser, just so you know

Laser sucks, Instant-on sucks. Bring back the "Smokey and the Bandit" days where the cop sat behind the billboard and shot X band 30 miles down the road.

This year in particular, I have noticed that the county and state police in MD. have been using Laser more and more. Needless to say, even with my trusty BEL 980 on 24/7 (and narrowly escaping TWO direct laser hits this year) I don't speed very much at all anymore. I like my BEL because it just about matches the 8500 in performance and is less expensive. It has tons of features, can see laser from the rear and can even invert the display for visor mounting.

I'll speak up for K40, Of cours you can't have the good system for that price. Their dash mount do suck, but I have the full blown in car system. It consists of front and rear radar, laser detector, and laser diffuser. The diffuser cancels the laser signal once it hits the car. Knock on wood, for the 7 years i've had it on two different cars never had a speeding ticket.

I've heard that any laser or radar "diffuser" or "jammer" really doesn't work scientifically, the signals are too strong for these devices to disperse them effectively enough, sounds like you have just been lucky or never go 15+ over limit

There are a few laser jammers that work very well. Some jam all the way to the gun but with every countermeasure comes an improvememnt on the other side. It's they way its always been.

Speedzones.com:
Acknowledging the popularity of effective laser jammers from Escort, Bel, K-40, and Blinder, Laser Atlanta has announced a new Stealth Mode in its laser gun claiming it can't be jammed. Both Stalker and LTI laser guns now tell the officer the gun is being jammed.
Check this thing out!

New Laser Camera’s Hit Market - Laser gun makers have announced new laser guns with digital cameras attached. When the officer pulls the trigger, what he sees in the gun’s HUD (heads up display) including distance and speed is automatically transferred to a Compact Flash card. He has evidence of speeding he never had before. Where used, the guilty plead rate approaches 100%. This development is fair to the motorist as well as the officer. In the past, the courts relied on the officer’s testimony of speeding with no visual evidence. With Laser Cameras there is no question as to the evidence.

Just got back from 300 mile roundtrip from NYC to Berkshire Cty. M.A. and have to say once again my V1 showed its range and accuracy. There were two times when it started to go off very slightly in the Ka band and I thought 'its probably just some false alarm' well...it builds steadily until its at full strength on the meter and sound also...sure enough there's a NY state trooper sitting at the top of the hill on Rt. 23 outside of New Paltz. Get the V1

My vote goes to the V1, but I am slightly biased since I have one and put it to good use since mid-2000 when I bought my CL-S. The only time I got pulled over was due to instant-on from a hidden cop, which no detector can defeat.

While price/performance ratio is certainly important, I am still shaking my head over the comments from some folks that the directional alert and bogey count indicators are useless. Quite simply, it provides you with much more information than just "there is radar nearby."

Perhaps the folks who say it is useless just say so because they own a competing product. *shrug* I had other radar detectors in the past, but since owning the V1 I don't see ever going back to a detector that lacks those features. I don't care if the V1 is "big and ugly." It simply works and works well.
