Need a little help with gears...

I just noticed when I change gears, it doesn’t seem as smooth as it should be (even while the car is off and parked). Anyone know why? The car is an ’03 6MT.

Thanks.

Is it smooth when shifting in the higher gears while driving, say 4th, 5th and 6th? I am not sure how smooth it should be when your parked, maybe it isnt so smooth if your sitting on a hill...

well, I mainly notice it in first and second gears, but third seems a bit rough. I was on level ground when I started noticing it. I have searched the threads and seen others with this problem, but they don't really say how to correct the problem, or is this something I have to get use to. It wasn't like this a before.

According to what I have read here everyone experiences these problems from 1-3rd as it is a close ratio 6-speed. I am sure that reading will go to show that people with years of experience driving manuals have some problem with going from 1-2nd smoothly.

I would think it is something your going to get used to, but someone with more experience might chime in.

If it wasn't like this before possibly go to a dealer, see if they can look at it.

If I get lazy and don't fully depress the clutch when shifting gears, things don't feels as smooth. Could this be what's happening? Also, how many miles on your 6MT? Maybe the syncros are going or maybe there's an issue with the clutch.

I do fully press the clutch, and my car has 47,000 KM's or 29,200 miles. When I went out for lunch today, I was noticing it seemed a bit better than in the morning, but i dunno. I'll see later when I drive home. Thanks everyone, and if you think of anything else, please let me know.

Yep... my car doesn't shift as smooth in the morning after sitting overnight. After a couple of miles it gets back to the silky smooth feel. I've got 25K miles on it.

I did forget about that, I have the same problem, smoothness only after a few miles of shifting, or running 1st and 2nd to the redline will help.

Maybe it is something to do with the cold, or the heat?

i think you're referring to the smoothness of the gear shift lever operation not the smoothness of the engine/drivetrain delivering power to the front wheels. "notchiness" in the shifter gates as opposed to the car "jerking" as you accelerate through the gears.

i've also seen this in various threads. especially 2nd gear. i seem to remember something about draining out excess gear oil from one of the sight holes in the side of the trans. you might also want to consider a gear oil change. i'm not sure if a product called "red-line" is available, or approved by honda, for this gear box. but all the performance gear heads seem to rave about it.

It may be your shifter bushings gone bad. Stock bushings are garbage. Although my EL shifter is nice and smooth, and it's stock. Too bad Energy Suspension don't make applications for your ride
