Wet sand with 1500 grit or even 2000 grit, then simply finish with a good plastic polish using a buffer. By hand will take forever. Mask off around the lense, don't hit the paint. Keep polishing until the lense is crystal clear. The plastic polish has a tiny bit of compound in it that disolves with use.

You're wasting money. be patient and do it correctly. Make sure you go left right left right up down up and and not in a circle. thats how it gets worse. I just did it for my brother's yellow ass headlights on his civic and now they look better then new. you seriously need a powered buffer and not use elbow grease on this one. It'll never turn out right.

You are wasting your money!!! I have been through this also. Do not spend 3-400 on new headlights! I did and then decided to buff my old ones and my wallet regrets buying new ones deeply. Ironically, now I need to do this to my new headlights but not nearly to the extent you do. It seems like your lenses are heavily oxidized or scratched so I have given you the extreme prescription to fix your lenses. Get some 1500 grit sand paper and work the plastic with a spray bottle full of water and sand each lens for about 45 minutes in small circles moving all over the lens evenly with moderate pressure. After doing that move to 2000 grit sand paper and sand them for about another 20-30 minutes each again with moderate pressure not light. This will take some “elbow grease” and you should expect a tired arm. After the wet sanding with 1500 and 2000 grit clean the lenses. Your lenses will still look cloudy as hell but you have removed the surface impurities in the lens, scratches/oxidation etc. Now use a $70 commercially available orbital buffer. Preferably a Porter Cable Model 7336. It has variable speed and works awesome. Don't use some piece of shit buffer. You wont get the results. You need something with some power. Now get some kind of plastic wax. With a LEVELING pad on the orbital buffer apply about a quarter sized glob of the plastic wax on the pad and press it against the lens then turn the buffer on at about half speed. If you turn it on before pressing it against the lens you will sling wax all over the place. Buff each light with moderate to heavy pressure moving in circles all over the lense evenly for about 30-45min on each lens applying more wax as needed. You don't need to use a shit load of wax which is a common misconception. After doing this to both lenses you need to put a BUFFING pad on the orbital buffer and then apply the wax again. Buff each lens with the buffing pad for about 5-10 minutes and your headlights will look better than new. The results are stunning.

yeah you're suppposed to polish after...

i believe the highest grit is 2000, then after you polish... polishing removes a thing layer because of abrasives in the polish. lots of people use scratchx by meguiars
