Need an answer to a question that a maxima owner asked...
he asks...
Next up, the CD on a 02 max is a very repectable .31(on the SE). Please let me know what the CD is on the 2K2 CL-S. I highly dow't it is much better, probably at best .30. A CD of .01 difference will have very little effect on a highway race or even top speed for that matter. Please let me know the CD for teh CL-S, I am dieing to hear it!
Since we all know im a moron, and I only know the basics.... so i figure one of you guys can help me to understand what he is talking about.

And yes, the CL-S has a CD of 0.32, I have it from an Acura press-release.

A lower number is better. Higher CD means there is more your vehicle is less aerodynamic.

I've checked pr newswire for cl-related press releases that say anything about the coeffecient of drag and haven't seen anything.
was it a canada-specific press release, maybe?

Crippen, could you post that web site. I have a 03 6-speed on order and it would be nice to see if they have any specs on the new models, or Canadian pricing for that matter.

One oft-overlooked fact is that CD is a ratio, it isn't an absolute number. The effective aerodynamic drag of a vehicle is calculated by multiplying CD by the frontal area of the car. So a tiny car with a bit higher CD is much more aerodynamic than a large car with a bit lower CD. The new Lexus LS430 has something like a .28, which is great, but it isn't more aerodynamic than a smaller sports car with a .32 or .33.

Lowering the car, a spoiler, and a body kit all have a positive effect on CD. Allthough the cars frontal area is increased, the flow of the air is improved.

In fact, a spoiler actually adds more drag to a car than actually improving it. Car & Driver did a comparison test with a Mustang in the 1/4 mile ~ 3-4 years ago showing a higher trap speed and slightly better 1/4 mile times in the spoiler-less version. This makes sense as a spoiler, like its name implies, spoils the air flow at the end of the car, thus leading to the eventual creation of downforce at the rear end to allow stability at high speed...triple digits that is (around 150 mph).

In the looks department, it's a winner! I bet, if you were to take it off your car and do the 1/4 mile, you should see a difference in time and speed, assuming everything else being equal.
