Trade/sell the car. It works out cheaper.

how is he going to trade/sell the car w/ a non-functional transmission. and since it's over the warranty period, he will probably get in the area of $7500-8000 for the car, how is that cheaper? Shouldn't cost much more than $3,000 to do the swap.. cheapest 6spd on auto trader is $15. so it is actually cheaper to do the swap.

I think Kris (fsttyms1) did it his swap pretty cheaply, but he supplied all his own labor. The OP here is looking for a shop to do it. Putting an auto tranny in the car will be straight forward for a shop, but a 6spd conversion is more of a custom job which will involve alot more hours for troubleshooting etc... Hours for custom labor at a shop isn't going to be cheap.

The OP is hoping an auto vs. 6spd job at a north cali shop is going to cost around the same, and that's just not going to happen

FYI: there's 15 CL 6spds under $15K (asking price) on autotrader if you do a nationwide search:

I meant after he rebuilds the tranny, or hell patch it for now just so it runs ok, then dump it.

6-speed to an auto.

I thought I had read it all here on Acurazine. That makes absolutely zero sense. Sure you'll get off the line easier but it doesn't matter how much traction you have when you're frying clutch packs right and left and needing transmission replacements all the time.

I must agree. I never thought I'd hear about a manual to auto conversion. This site never fails to amaze me.

Supra guys do it a lot, actually. They switch from 6speed to 700R4's, Powah Glides, and Turbo400 automatic transmissions. My friend Tray is doing a 5speed-Powah Glide in his drag 240. Doesn't make sense to me, but it works for them.

Nupe is joking. He's just trying to get a rise out of everyone. Personally, I think he's hilarious.

Yes they do. They do it for the better 0-60 foot times I believe.
