ck Case Mystery Mod REVEALED!!!
Hello people, im here at SEMA with Gimmick. We just had a chance to check out what the "Mystery Mod" looks like. i dont think they even have a booth. We ran into the Rick Case guy(Doug), and he showed us what the thing looks like but, we still no idea what it Exactly does. He says it has something to do with resonance.

The thing actually mounts on the INtake Manifold, maybe even replaces it.

We also had a chance to see the supercharger. Beautiful!
We will post pics when we get back.

It can't replace the intake manifold

I deleted the other 2 threads in order to keep all of the comments in one topic.

can it mount in front of the intake manifold then? Like a small blower into the engine?
I thought you can make the throttle body bigger for my air to get pass...

I think "resonance" is the key word here...... Type R was saying something about that...

LOL, well that could just mean it's a CAI then. You know, removes the resonator that quiets the intake (and restricts it like crazy), so therefore it creates more resonance, no?

Who cares.

Maybe as posted by someone else (can't remember who, or in which thread) that it's a new top plate for the intake manifold. Additional space in the chamber would allow for some drastic changes in the "heimholtz resonance" effect. I'm no thermodynamic engineer (just a lowly EE ), but this makes sense.

Replacing the top plate would only take 5 minutes. This sounds like a great mod, especially for the bang it provides (dyno results.) And no ECU mods involved... equating to no real danger of voiding the warranty. This sounds great!

PICS AND MORE INFO PLEASE.

Upper Intake Manifold Cover

From the ModMole: (Btw, WHO is he? - C'mon moderators, you can check it out!)

Uhhmnnn The Rick Case Mystery Mod is an upper intake manifold cover that increases the mass volume and resonance to create an increased intake charge.

Looks like MackDaddy hit it on the head... below is a post from RAdams, a mod from the TL board who I believe has been on here before.....

"Since the Mystery Mod has been discovered by those who have already attended SEMA, it is no longer a mystery -- I'll confirm to all of you that could not attend SEMA that the above information is correct. That's the Mystery Mod.

I have to say that knowing what the mod was from day 1 (ok, maybe day 2) was kinda bugging me -- a lot of you came up with great guesses.

No electrical connectors, no moving parts, no warranty issues, LOW COST -- and it really can be installed in 5 minutes

Say it with me now: "We love you, Doug." "

Link to Plenum + Helmholtz...

http://grapeaperacing.com/GrapeApeRa...ehelmholtz.htm

Who knows....

"Plenum Volume - There is not going to be a simple answer to the needed plenum volume for a given application or rpm range. The good thing about plenum volume is that there is a pretty wide range that it can be and still be effective, so general rules work well. The following guide lines are for engine operating in the 5000-6000 rpm rage. V8's with one large plenum feeding all 8 cylinders does not work all that well as far as the Helmholtz resonator goes, but if this is the case, plenum volume should be about 40-50% of total cylinder displacement. For a four cylinder 50-60% works well. For 3 cylinders (6 cylinder engine with two plenums), each plenum needs to be about 65-80% of the 3 cylinders it feeds. If a boost is desired in a higher rpm range, closer 7000-7500 rpm, the plenum will need to be 10-15% smaller. To get a boost in the 2500-3500 rpm range, it will need to need about 30% larger. The plenum size of a Helmholtz resonator may go against the typical plenum size rules, but the rules change when the resonator is being used. The whole Idea of a plenum is to allow the gases to slow down and gain density. The Helmholtz plenum makes a dense charge by use of pressure waves, in the same way tuned port intake runners work. This plenum sizing method does not apply to engines that to not use a tuned intake pipe. Many engine simply have the air cleaner assembly directly on the carb or throttle body having very little intake length. In those cases the Helmholtz resonator system does not work.

OMG, you guys see the pics in http://www.v6accord.com/forums/showt...3178#post16862
of the Accord with the yellow bodykit that looks like a Mustang?

The tail on that car has the LEAST functional wing I've EVER seen. It's all thick and retarded looking. Looks more like it would IMPEDE airflow than aid it.
