My Time Sucks

My 2001 CL-S is not feelin like how it feels when im driving it on the street and giving it WOT. I took it to the track with only a AEM CAI, with a full tank of gas, psi 32 in front, and 36 in the back, it was about 75-80 degrees, and i ran 15.0's all day.

I took it again after i installed my OBX RACING HEADERS, i took it to the track again. This time my gas tank was 1/4, my psi was at 28 in front, and 32 in back, and it was about 90 degrees And my best run was 14.89 @ 95.5 mph. why???? Im spankin mid 14 second cars on the street!!!!

everything comes into play at the track 60 foot times and good launches take practice. On the street you just race, and who ever pulls ahead enough wins not really a quartermile measured and timed run

Well you're hitting the track in 90 degree weather - that slows down your times. Go when it's as cold as possible.

Optimal tire pressure for launching (if you have street tires) is about 22psi, not 28 or 32.

Your trap speeds seem OK for you mods and weather, but you should be running mid 14s.

I bet your 60' times are 2.4 and up. Work on them until you get them down to a 2.2 and you'll be seeing mid 14 sec timeslips. And avoid hot & humid weather by all means.

my reaction time is so perfect. if i had my car running good, it would back me up and beat a lot of low 14's car. i lost to a 01 cobra by 1 car, and he beat my by .9 seconds.

My 60* is around 2.4-2.5sec. WHY? my launch seems good. i launch between 1500-2000 rpms. and im gettin those times. what should i launch at for me to run what im suppose to. i think with my two mods, i should run 14.5 all day!
let me know. thanks guys

Forget your reaction time. You're not doing bracket racing, so it doesn't count. You could have a 10 second reaction time and still nail a mid 14 second pass.

If your 60' is 2.4-2.5 there's something you're doing wrong on the launch. Perhaps you're going WOT too soon. I'll let others with automatic CL's chime in because mine is a 6spd and it's totally different to launch.

Your 60 ft. should never be higher than 2.4 . Most people get around 2.3 if they havent tracked a car before. Ideally, 2.2 is what you should shoot for. Anything less than that and your doing really well. If you can get your60 ft. to a 2.2, you will be running around 14.5 which sounds about right. also, your track might have elevation.
I wouldnt be too disappointed because the temps. were very high. You could easily drop a few tenths just from 60 degree weather. I dont think its unreasonable to say that you could be about a 1/2 second faster with a 2.2 60ft. and 60-70 degree temp.

to get about 10% wheel spin. Your tires should bark, maybe spin once but not excessively... that lets you know you're right on the threshold of static friction (rolling without slipping) If you've only tried it by mashing the pedal, try all the variations:

1) go WOT immediately
2) ease into the pedal, go WOT as soon as your tractoin is on the floor
3) brake-torque to 2500rpm, launch it
.
.
.
etc.

It all depends on what is happening right now, if you're not spinning at all, then you're bogging, no matter how "hard" it feels like you're coming out of the hole. If you're spinning like mad, then you're not hooking, then you need to back off the throttle. It takes practice, and that's why street racing (i.e. -- mashing the gas from a roll in an automatic) is way way easier than tracking.

What worked for me was step number 2.

Turn of VSA, brake-torque at 1,8o0 rpm, and ease into the throttle. And that's how I was pulling off my times. I gotta find my slip to prove.
