My review of my comptech Ice Box

After studying my cars behavior these past 3 weeks, I have come to the conclusion that the comptech Ice box actually slows down the flow of air the the manifold at lower RPMs. I noticed that my car doesnt really pul on the bottem end up to about mid range where the air box starts flowing in more here. This is how I have come to this conclution. 3 weeks ago when I got the car home from the shop, the clip that holds the bottem plastic peice thats right under the ice box funnel came loose and would hang as soon as a lot of air got under there. So now in this situation air from under the car was flowing up directly into the ice box filter. At this time the car was pulling strong from bottem to top. Any how i zip tied the plastic peice back up and didnt really notice till like 3 days later that the car wasnt pulling as strong until higher RPMs. So since the location of the funnel of the air box is not flowing enough air on the bottem end im going to try to modify the the plastic under the fender or drill small holes in the grill on the bumper directly infront of the funnel to try to force more air into it.

i drilled out the vents and covered it with mesh grill. search "functional vents". there are pics in the photo gallery. didn't really notice a difference, but it helps me sleep better at night. plus its looks better imo.

i think im going to get a long zip tie and zip tie the plastic peice to the bumper wit enough slack that the plastic peice hangs down but not low enough to hit the ground. I will probally just do this for the track though if i cant make it look clean enough for daily driving.

everyone attempting to make "more HP/air flow" from an icebox/any intake needs to just fork out the money for a turbo/3.5L upgrade/SC if they're looking for more power.

an intake in general won't gain any car that much HP - regardless how one "rigs" it. all these zip ties, custom tubes, custom rubber pieces, home depot "functional vents" are just stupid. i haven't seen a decent thread in this forum for who knows how long now.

an icebox does its job. gives 5-10 hp and looks aesthetically more pleasing than anyone's home depot dryer tubing - that's all one can ask for.

jerry rigging intakes of ANY KIND = FTL.
