My clutch started to slip!!

Oh no..

Well a few days after i installed my XS headers and RT hi flow cat when i was racing against someone when i shifted 1 to 2nd gear my clutch started to slip. It slip when i shift real fast.

Same thing when 2nd to 3rd gear.

oem clutch is 240$US ..

comptech flywheel combo is like 1100$

http://www.ct-engineering.com/store/510130.html

there is just one thing i dont like about the comptech: *Does not increase clutch strength *

and finally clutch masters.. they also come with the alluminum flywheel.

http://www.clutchmasters.com/shop/?p...01&ToYear=2003

stage 1 is 1375$

stage 3 is 1500$.. their clutch seems to me very resistant..

so.. which one to choose? anybody here have a clutch masters in their CLS-6?

i need a string clutch.. because maybe in the future im gonna put a supercharger

thanks!

have you looked into the clutch dampning device first? there is a bypass that might fix your problem. but i think thats only if you have the same symptoms i have

CT doesn't make their setup any longer
There's been debate as to weather clutch masters or any other clutch is actually stronger then stock. Some seem to reuse the stock pressure plate & repaint it. Some appear to use the same OEM disk & again re-brand it.
Some members have tried different setups & they have failed.

I would go stock, it should handle the power of the s/c fine. How many miles on your car?

Plus with the Comptech kit, you still have to buy an OEM pressure plate to do the full kit. Don't worry about this setup not being sufficient for the SC either. No problems here.

Fuzzy - I think you're thinking of SPEC clutches being repainted OEM's.

From what I've heard, most of the guys using the Clutch Masters units have been pretty happy with the results. Down side with their setup is that it's not a self adjusting pressure plate - OEM is.

I too would suggest bypassing the clutch dampener and replacing with a steel braided unit. Works fine without it.

The only alternatives we have in the aftermarket clutch/flywheel now is clutch masters.. comptech dosent make kits anymore for our cars.

ACT dosent make anything for the 3.2 cls 6spd and exedy also..

I looked at the clutchmasters website and i can see that you can choose beetween stage 1 or stage 3 kits...

http://www.clutchmasters.com/shop/?p...01&ToYear=2003

you can choose the FX100 kit (strong) FX300 or FX400 (very strong)

All of the kits come with the aluminium flywheel that weight 10 lbs against the 30 pound oem flywheel and with the pressure plate also.

but its a little pricey.. 1500$

i tried to search clutchmasters in the forum but the search fountion dosent work well.

Anybody here use the clutchmasters kit?

You can buy just the clutchmasters clutch kit for half that price maybe less but they have to modify your flywheel for it to work since its made for the aluminum flywheel. Actually thats for the dampened flywheel, youll be getting from them the solid disk since thats what we use stock since the stock flywheel absorbs all the vibration.

for some reason i can't pull up the old thread that i made. There it explain everything about the CM kit.

i have them for more or less 2 years now and i'm very happy with them. Did maybe 50+ run on the strip with 360hp/330tq and it's still holding up really well.

i can't tell you right now at the moment how they are, cos my car is still in the shop getting some "muscle massage" but before he went in for surgery, the clutch was running fine...

I found in my notes some of the earlier threads for the flywheel/clutch replacement. You may have seen these, but if not they are worth a read.

I have nearly the same mileage and I live in SF with tons of massive hills and have no problems. Is it 'user error' as they say?
