My Cl-s Overheated
My Cl-s Overheated
my car has 99k, 2001 type s, w/ aem intake, did the coolant flush around 93k.
ok it was over 90 degrees sat out here in ny, and so i had my ac blasting. then on my way home back from nj, i noticed that my temp gauge started to rise and show that it was getting hot.
so i pulled over and saw there was leaking on the left side(standing in front of car)
i then bought coolant filled it up and then no leak. oh by the way the fan on the right side went on. (next to battery)
then i drove the car again, few miles after the gauge went up again.
i pulled over and and waited. i kept on doing this for about everytime it started to rise, i pull over and let it cool off a bit then drive again.
then i finally put the car to a stop and parked the car and then the car wouldnt start over. waited about 30 min and then the car started w/ no problem. checked the fluid and was low,so i filled it up, and no leak after filling it.
drove it again in the highway going towards back home for about 5 miles, (drove it a lil longer w/ the gauge high.) then i pulled over, then the car wouldnt start over again.
so next day(sunday) i check the car and the oil, clean, started the car no smoke from the exhaust or front. no collant burn smell. but no coolant lquid, so filled it up. drove it to my mechanic for about another 4-5 miles more, i pulled over every mile or so on my way there. no leak or burn smell and the temp did not go up.
BUT the check engine light was on. my mechanic tried staring it over and over and no problems starting. hes gonna check it out more monday.
what could it be,
thermostat
temp sensor
raidator fan
or
worst? head gasket?
what should i have my mechanic checked out more so just in case he doesnt try to get over me? or not kno where the problem is, coz i def trust u guys more.
thanks again.

All that coolant must be going somewhere. and if its not going on the floor then it must be going into the engine. pull the code and check what it says. Change the oil too and see if you see anything weird.
oil is good, still oily, lol. no smoke coming out of tailpipe, no problem starting over the next day, it didnt over heat although the engine light is on.
could it b the thermostat stuck coz sometimes it would leak and sometimes it wouldnt and most of the time it leakes when im stopped few secs after.

The car is shutting off cause it's over heated. If you have to add coolant then it's leaking or boiling off.
Whenever you do get it fixed make sure to do a compression check & inspect the head gaskets very well.

This same thing happened to me after a lady hit my front and my car was in the repair shop. I got the car out and after a couple of days, I had that same experience. Temp gauge was skyrocketing and I had to pull over to let the car cool off every couple of miles. ALMOST made it home before the last time wouldn't let me start the car. Turned out to be the radiator fan was pushed up on something else and wasn't running at all. It also cracked the radiator. After a new fan and radiator were put in the car ran perfect.
The oil will be milky and often (but not always) smell bad if the coolant is leaking in there. You wouldn't be able to tell without draining some.
Like fuzzy said, if you're adding that much that frequently, it's going some where in a hurry. It's not fixed until you know where that is and have stopped it from doing so. If it's not coming out on the floor or going up in steam, it's probably going in the engine. If it's the head gasket, you'll usually see white smoke out the pipes the first time starting the car after it's sat for a while, like over night.

same thing happened to me, my coolant was burning off but without the majority of the smell, my fan was kicking on and my acura mech couldnt figure it out for a bit until we took some things apart. what we found was that my thermostat had gone bad. it was jammed open and not registering properly. once i got a new one in there and a coolant flush everything was running fine
yea leaky raidator, i saw it they filled it up and few mins later it all leaked out, hes charging me $145 for the new radiator and $100 for the labor w/ filling it up w/ acura coolant liquid..
im also going to ask him to replace the thermostat just in case since that part is pretty cheap, so just in case. coz i dont kno y the radiator leaked, ust taking precautions
