My car is reving itself like crazy
got out of a car wash and my car started to acting weird...i noticed the car is reving itself, so i stoped the car and leave it in park, but the car kept reving from 0-2500 RPM, and the VSA and Maintainence lights were all on. My car is sitting in the dealer right now, What's worng with my car?? bad sensor or something??

tell them thats horseshit. read my last couple posts( car revving by itself; ridiculous revving), exact things have been happening to me. Christmas eve, my CLS was revving byitself from idle to about 2500rpms, exactly like yours, it was like if someone kept putting their foot on the gas. i took it to the dealer, they said it was a bad IAC valve, they replaced it. now im getting all sorts of strange revs coming from the engine. i definitely think it is the tranny going.
anyways, I hope in your case its only a faulty IAC valve.

Guys- if you are having this revving problem and have an AEM By-pass installed on your CAI, check the bypass to make sure it is not broken. We have seen a few cars where a piece of the By-pass valve has broken off and lodged in the intake- behind the throttle body. Had to open up the plenum and clean it out.

have also had the revving problem (only once, after car had sat at airport for 7 days) and also have AEM CAI. will be checking my bypass this weekend but haven't had the problem any more.
called the dealer and service said it was a rev control valve...can't believe the carwash story...would be upsetting to be told that...

Transmission won't cause it when in park- a bad Idle Air control Valve can or even a bad connection to the valve- (like water in the connector) can. The by-pass problem is not common but we have had 3 cars with the problem. Just keep a check on yours.

If you have the car in park and this is occuring there are two likely culprits. The IAC as Wayne mentioned and a small vacuum leak. But most likely the former, the IAC is probably the cause of 75% of idle quality issues.
One other thing for an '03 manual, if you have disconnected the battery be sure to let the car warm up in idle on the first start. There is a learn procedure for the ECU controlling the IAC. Just a side note BTW.

the car revs while im driving as well
anyway..just got the car back today. dealer told me it might be the intake sucking water from the car wash.
here is what they have done
"diagnostic troubleshooting codes"
and
"manifold absolute pressure"
they car is fine now, THANKS for all the help and tips, i love you guys

I have never noticed a LARGE increase in revs (Certainly not up to 2500rpm), but at idle all of my previous hondas have bounced up during idle...even at a stop light. Not enought that I creep forward if but I think and automatic cycles somehow and the rpms go up a little bit when certain fans go on and off? Enough that I double check my foot on the brake though.

MY 03 CL-S was doing the same thing last week, i took it in and they said "found codes P0505 83-1 ECM relation failure cleared codes intermit." Basically the computers codes were getting mixed up and had to be cleared and reset. now my car is back to perfect.
