My A/C stops cooling after about two hours!

While on the drive to Dallas this weekend, was well into the trip and the A/C just stopped blowing cold air. If you're in or around Dallas/Arlington this weekend, you'll know this was NOT the time to have no
A/C. Anyway, I turned the temp. down to 60 and the fan on full, and it' was just a trickle of cool air hinted at by the A/C.

Have any of you experienced this?

Might be something freezing up after running the A/C for too long.

Does it always take a long time (hours) before it stops cooling?

Yes. I noticed this same thing on the way back from Houston the last trip I made. I'd have never known until I had to have it on for an extended time. I'm scheduled to take it to the shop Wednesday morning.

You blew a gasket or an o-ring somewhere. Straight to the dealer for you. I had a rapid loss of freon once on my legend and it was a pretty simple fix. It was a VERY hot day and I had been running all over town and it just stopped cooling. They put a new o-ring in somewhere and I was good to go. I wonder how much of the ozone layer I destroyed that day.

Mostly around downtown since I live in MidTown. When the weather is nice, I mostly cruise the countryside outside of town looking for fun twistys. Found a few north of Skitook. I don't do much driving in the S when it is this hot.

its not an o ring problem as stated by his description, he said just a trickle of cold air, the cold air would mean that the system is still charged, the trickle would be an airflow restriction, i would guess that the moisture on the evaporator core froze blocking the core (since the fan blows through the core, hence the poor airflow) after being parked did the a/c start working normally, and was there a large puddle under the vehicle? - there may be a sensor on the core some cars have them some don't if so maybe its inop, and the compressor was chuggin along untill it froze, i've seen it happen on various vehicles, thats my guess anyway
