Mugen T-Stat

I went ahead and ordered the Mugen thermostat, at the outrageous $69.00 price. I sure hope it is made of Titanium...

I did this for one reason, P0128; this is a DTC for the engine not warming up quick enough. It happened yesterday when my wife drove the car to the office (I had taken her BMW in for service, got a 530i auto for a loaner). It was about 50 degrees out and she started up and went allowing cool air to flow well before any heating had started. With the drilled stat in there the coolant flow increased revs was staying cooler than expected and the DTC was set.

So I ordered the Mugen T-Stat and will replace the stock unit this weekend. So for those about to do this, don't drill the stat unless you live in a constantly warm climate, just buy the gold plated unit...

if you have SC or turbo, that might help..but for a N/A car, sorry to say but it'd make VERY LITTLE difference..if any to be noticed by your car.

It is not meant to gain something, it is meant to help not loose power. Plus, this is just an experiment to determine the validity of a report done by TOV. In some recent dyno testing done my TOV they dropped about 7hp and the same in torque when the ECT went from 180 F to just above 200 F.

You will never notice this amount even if it turns out to be true; this is about 3% which is imperceptible. Being able to not loose it is nice to know though. Who knows if that test done by TOV is accurate, they have no reason not to be and noted that most Hondas are this way. Some testing will tell though which will be done soon and there is no harm in that.

Unfortunately no. So the variable gains will need to be deciphered. The plans is to go in the next couple of weeks.

Weird ... having all of those parts come off the Integra page!

http://www.kingmotorsports.com/produ...ra/engine.html

Did they have you look over your thermostat or did they finally decide that the 19301-XGER-0000 must be the "proper" one?

Were you getting a “bounce” with the holes drilled in the current thermostat (the coolant needle would move around depending on temp and load)?

Actually I used the Civic page as a reference.

No, I'm just winging it assuming it will be right. They stated that there is only one T-Stat available and it fits all models so there is a pretty good chance it will fit.

No bounce, in fact it was pretty stable. It just took longer to warm up especially with revs increasing flow and airflow over the rad. But even if there is fluctuation you wouldn't see it on the stock gauge. The needle is in about the same location from 150 - 210 F. They might as well just have an idiot light as this gauge is meaningless as is with most stock gauges.

Hopefully you only need one at bat! When I called I got one story version and a second story version (I guess it depends on the phase of the moon when calling). The second was related to CLS via way of the Accord: "You have to pull the unit to see what it looks like ... two units can fit the car and depending on what the unit looks like ...." :P

I believe you and I’m surprised. The stock temp gauge in my Bimmer would at least move around in sync with a good aftermarket VDO gauge.

Acura CLS Headlines:

Precision instruments to be turned into an idiot lights

Engineers in charge of “Idiot Meter Projects” (IMP) have been turned loose on the gas gauge. After months of comments from Acura customers about variations in movement in their gas gauge from tank-to-tank, the IMP team will get to work on the 2004 gas gauge. The project will be called GIMP (Gas Idiot Meter Project).
