Mounting a new spoiler...

Basically, I am a new owner fo a 2001 3.2 CL and I really wanted to get one with a spoiler. Well, I got a really good deal on this car and it didn't have a spoiler, so I decided to buy a painted OEM style spoiler. I know the forum has directions on how to mount the damn thing yourself, but for one reason or another my drilling skills are non existent and the idea of drilling holes in my own car simply kills me. I noticed some people said that mounting a spoiler should cost somewhere in the neigborhood of $25-$30 bux. However, I can't seem to find any body shop to do it that cheap. I was hoping somone who lives in the San Francisco bay area could meet up with me and help me mount this bad boy. I can even pay you some for it and I would prefer if you had some experience doing this.

Please PM me if you can help out, thanks so much...

I guess your right, I mean it seems so simple, but I ran a search on this board and a bunch of people seem to think that it should cost 25-30. So I was just going by that. I got a $50.00 quote from a body shop...

Even $50 is not that bad of a deal. Look at it this way... if your dealer does it.. then your covered whereas if you do it.. you're on your own.

Also keep in mind you'll need to adjust the tensioners so the trunk stays up with the added weight.

well, if you got a good deal on the car... and a good deal on the spoiler... just bite the bullet and pay for someone to mount the thing and be done with it.

Does that also include connecting the integrated brake light wires? I think the back seat shelf light has to be disconnected too, I think in CA you can't have an extra brake light on both the shelf and spoiler.

Plus there's also the slightly extra labor required to hook up the brake light on the spoiler if you decide to go that route. Local shop here charged me $75 to mount and switch the brake light wiring... but it only took about 1 hour.

I guess your right, so no one suggests I follow the directions on this forum to do it myself? Anyone with some experience willing to help sometime?

To do it right you will also need another part for the trunk. My tech told me, when they installed it, that he put an extra bar that helps to raise the trunk(located near the back seat) to compensate the extra weight on the trunk lid. If I were you, I would not attempt to do it. It could give you a lot of headache and maybe a lot of money if you messed it up. Take it to an experienced shop

They are called trunk springs, the new ones are sold with the factory spoiler. These support the extra weight of the spoiler.
