Considering they said it won b/c of the price, about $60 cheaper than the V1, I wouldn't call that a victory. There's no way I'd give up the direction indicators to save $60.

don't forget about the false alarm issues plus not sensitive enough for the K and Ka bands

it's interesting how low V1 scored in radartest.com's detector shootout

Escort 8500: 97
Bel 980: 94
V1: 77
K40 SS3000: 39

Damn, this is an active subject today.

Radartest.com could be anyone putting up a website and going w/ the highest payoff to make their detector look the best. Most of us here could create a similar website and make Uniden look awesome and the Bel look like junk. It's easy. Check your source.

I was surprised on the Ka sensitivity but V1 is due for an upgrade and I would expect nothing but that performance from the newest Bel. Otherwise, what's the piont?

Knowing the past history of MT, I would be curious to know how many advertisements for the Passport have been in the last few issues? I think you know what I am getting at.

From what I gather, the V1 was just recently upgraded. Both the software/internals and the casing. I bought mine 2 weeks ago. My friend has his about a year. Mine is lighter, smaller, they moved the rear laser sensor, and has a later software revision. My manual is also printed in 2001.

Right on the first page of the manual "Now the V1 has enjoyed its ninth birthday. The magnesium case still looks identical to the original, but the electronics inside have been completely changed time and time again, I believe in continuous improvement"

We know that the escort 8500 is the latest and greatest that was included in the testing, but they do NOT indicate what version V1 they used, as the V1 doesn't change model numbers, but rather software and internal codes.

Not defending the V1, (I like both the 8500 and V1)but it would be nice to know what they were comparing against?
