Mods to 2001 cl type s

Juts got a 2001 type s with 111,000 on it. I havent had anyone look at it yet but will soon. The transmission feels ok. What would you install for a bit more hp? What ab a transmission cooler would that help it last longer? Thanks!

Just talked to Acura. Trans replaced at 65,000. 105,00 hasn't been done. They want 1,300 to do it and change the timing belt. Seems kinda high. Also what can i do to make my car handle a bit better? Thanks

rajca said it right.... make sure ur car is running good b4 u tinker with it...

maintenance 1st, mods second

bang for buck pulley is 1 under 100$, headers is 2 anywhere from a few 100 to 1000 if u get new comptech's, intake is number 3 anywhere from 120-300 depending if u get new or used, and i hear good things about xlr8 high flow cat... 400 for 10hp roughly... aint too shabby

I thought the hi flow cat was only effective if u have headers + aftermarket exhaust? Is it worth it with headers only???

First im puting it in the acura shop for the 105,000 and timing belt water pump change. Mike, How much hp could i add with your set up? How much would it cost? I don't see prices on your site. I'm pretty new to this but my buddy who has done it before say cold air intake would make it really loud. Im going for more fast than loud but i wouldnt mind a little throat. What about adding a chip ?Also anyway to reduce road noise?
Thank

high flow cat is not worth it unless you are going forced induction. redoing the CL-S exhaust gets you MAYBE 1-2 hp

i've heard of a couple people with the xlr8 cat and they say they can feel the difference.... u can't feel 1-2hp. that's more like 8-10

U lose low end due tq to less back pressure, and high end HP soars...

This is actually my next mod for my car and I just have headers, with stock exhaust.

I LOVE the look of the stockies and the sound is quiet or loud depending on how u are driving it. WHICH is exactly what I want.

Car is pure sleepr aside from the grille set up

The cat apparently just gets the ROAR going a little more for lower rpms as the exhaust gases will be flowing faster to the cans therefore there will be less noise drouned out.

Just a tid bit louder and I can say perfect.

IMHO a cat get u the same as exhuast... and exhaust is like 6-700.. and then my car isn't stock looking. so it's a no brainer for me.

I do have ONE QUESTION FOR ?? EXCELERATE ???

Does the car smell due to worse emissions cause of the HIGH flow cat? or is there practically no difference?

Cause I like having a clean burning car too, so i wouldn't wanna sacrifice that for a new cat when mine is in such good condition, i am an idiot for wanting to change it anyway. lol

That is not true. There are gains to be had on N/A vehicles and it's more than 1-2 hp.

No, you still have a cat in place so there is no additional smell. You will get a rotten egg smell from a test pipe b/c you're dumping raw emissions through the exhaust system unfiltered (since there is no cat).

^^^^^ hahahah if only that shit were legal in my country :-(..

Question for Excelerate and anyone who knows about this....

umm... so the HP gains from the cat.. will they be minimal with OEM can on the back of the CL... Cause I love the stock look exhaust and the quietness. Or do i need like CT exhaust cans to get all the HP out of the CAT??

I guess what i'm really asking is.... is it worth doing just the CAT and not the exhaust?? or is it something that should be done together.? Keep in mind I do have headers and a fully modded intake system (pretty much)

your input will decide what I do with my car next year.

i know it will help... but like how much in comparison to if the cans were done also???

Cause the way I see it right now.

why spend 6-700 on CT cans when I can get a new cat for 400 and have almost the same power gain... and the look will be better in my mind.

I love the stock look. my car is pure sleepr aside from the grille

cans are just for sound, not performance. I think you mean doing just a high flow cat vs larger piping?? I think the performance benefits of an exhaust will be minimal either way. IMO might as well save for something that will give you a real performance gain. If i could go back and do this all over again, i would have just saved and stroked the motor first.

FYI, you can do your exhaust and keep your cans. I have a 2.5 from headers all the way to the stock cans, with a magnaflow resonator in there.
