Mod for people who ROAST their brakes

K so I was just sitting watching TV and for some reason this idea came to mind.

They probably already have it on race race cars.. like F1 and stuff. by anyways.

what if you hooked up a thermal lazer sensor pointing on the front (mount them on the shock body or something) and rear surface of the rotors and wired those obviously to gauges so you'd have a live feed of your rotor temp.

Overkill, probably. cool as HELL i think so.

but i think this mod would benefit those who care about their brakes. very good info I think at least

It would probally take a couple of sets of rotors to figure the warping temp.
I assume all rotors will warp at differnt temps.
But after a couple warped sets it would be cool toy.
riding street only I think it would really be pointless to carry the extra weight for sensors, brakets, wiring gauges.

What about something spraying cold air on the rotors too from a controler when temps get to high.
Just a thought to add to your thoughts.

there are air ducts..

on our car the way youd do it is take out the fog lights and fab a vent which direct air onto the rotor itself.

spraying cold air may be too extreme of a change and warp the rotors as they are.

i may do the air duct thing. I got hoists and time. just gotta think of a material/way to make it

Some sort of flexible tubing.
You just got to figure out the inlet mouth.

Cool idea in all but if you have to stop your going to stop and it won't matter what temp your brakes are. If you have to stomp on them then you have to.

Now if your just out effin around for fun, sure might be a good idea to tell you when to take it easy on them or when they have had enough.

it is only useful for racing, waste of time for a street driven car.

and in race cars the temp sensor is actually mounted on a modified dust shield.

they basically take the dust shield cut it up so its just like a mount bracket.

I doubt u drive anything like me. The temp was measured after a few hard stops from 120 to 40 (hard stop) to zero (slowing down slowly)

like others have said pointless unless you track the car. You shouldn't be doing that much hard braking during normal driving unless you like to really ride other ppl's butts. I never ride other car's butts so I never have to hard brake myself unless i do it on purpose. I do get ppl cutting in front of me because they dont like seeing any gap tho and i just back off more. Sounds like you want BBK/track brakes but those brakes never do as good in panick stopping especially if the brakes aren't heated up yet.

I have had my current rotors glowing red on a few occasions. They still brake butter smooth. Quality rotors and pads are all you need.

I'm noticing alot of the mods you do are complete overkill mods.

With the proper pad selection you wont have to worry about heating them up a whole lot. It doesnt matter how large or a rotor/caliper you go with.

Ive never gotten mine to glow, but I have gotten them to smoke ALOT.

Maybe a parachute is next to slow down the supersonic CL.

well it's not a mod I am gonna do for sure. But I am out of traditional mods for my car now so I am going to go custom.

This winter i am going to custom fiberglass/fab up some air vents for the rotors which will take the air from the fog light location into the wheel well.

And rajca. I do brake from 100-0 every here and there, I have my moments of inspired car beating. So it not overkill per se.

well I must have bad luck then cause the UNWARPABLE DBAs definately warped.

I walked into the place i bought them, told them they are warped and they were like.... "NO WAY?" so I reply ,"what am I ... a legend" Buddy replies, "uhhhh... yeaaaa!!"

and i wasn't even beating on the brakes, never got them to go red EVER, nor got them to smoke... ever.

so i'm cursed

ur funny

I ONLY drove 5000kms before hitting the brakes hard at all!!! I was super cautious and took weeks before i did some inspired braking.

500-1000kms is all it takes to bed the pads.

any other wisdom?

I got the drilled and slotted DBA's So my guess would be the holes are what is making the rotor unable to take the heat.

wheel will only wobble when i heat the rotor up and am braking. LIKE it goes outa shape then back in the right spot when it's cold.... so weird

Nothing wrong with doing something different or thinking outside the box

Seriously, bedding in your pads makes the most difference when it comes to rotors. I am on my 3rd set of drilled/slotted rotors, and I can tell you that it's all in how you treat them. I warped the first 2 sets because I didnt' bed my pads properly. No issues with my 3rd set, and I've had them on for like 3 years now. Just sayin, been there done that

necessary??

half the things on this site we do to our cars, is not necessary.

this site is about exploration and experimentation.. as much as it is about maintenance and problem diagnosing.

Yes I agree it is not necessary. However, could it be beneficial? heck yea.

not for a second did I say you need to do this mod. simply an idea that I decided to talk about...which I plan on turning into a reality at some point. nothing more, nothing less.

p.diddy... you think that is overkill? lol howbout this:the left compartment panel in the trunk and the right side (jack cover) and lower cover for the tire iron. took that all off and wrapped it in dark black vinyl (looks like leather) very sexy.

Why you ask?... lol I dunno I was bored and there were no mods to do. now THAT is overkill. but I have had compliments on it already from some friends.

anyways, overkill or not I don't see why it matters. We all got the same car and many have similar interests. So that's why I make a thread about a topic like this instead of keeping it to myself.

Dude calm down it ain't that serious and if you actually read what I typed you would see what I meant but I can clearly see you missed my entire point. But at the end of the day it's my opinion.

Driving easy on them is not the proper way to bed them in.
