Is the vin on our Engine supposed to be the same as our car?

The vin stamped on my motor is different than the vin for my car? Is it supposed to be like that? Or is it a newer motor?
I just looked on my Mom's Honda Odyssey and the Engine stamp didn't match her vin either. We are the original owners of that car and the Engine has never been replaced.
Looks like my CL's Engine is original. I wonder why Engine codes don't match vins on these cars?

for the engine, its on the left side near the timing belt cover, its on a white sticker. Its also stamped on the engine block below the EGR I think.
the trans vin is stamped on a green plate below the starter, behind one of the radiator fans. Its wayyy down there though, towards the bottom of the car.

Thanks too assclown in another thread, it has been solved:

those must be the engine's serial numbers then. Its been a while since i've glanced at them. I think you can call acura or something and they can tell you what your engine number is supposed to be and you can match that up to whats on the engine.
