changed my oil and found this piece of metal in it. i don't know what it is but found it floating in my motor oil. =[ only 45k miles. 01 CL. first tranny. any thoughts? acura.. you could see it falling apart in my fingers. probably a bunch of it left in the oil. largest piece i found.

that goes not look good.....it actually looks like the lining of our door on the inside..that yellowish stuff...to be honest, unless your car has what acura calls "the tranny symptoms" unfortunately they will not be able to do anything....

1- i would def get an oil plug that has the magnetic end on it, that will catch metal shavings...

2- i would get a quality oil filter, because those pieces, could have came from your oil filter depending if you bought just a joe shmo brand.. honda and mobil 1 make a high quality oil filter....any honda/acura oil filter will work...their probably like $5 at the dealer and they give you a new washer...or you can buy bulk and get them on line for $3

3-i would def drain your oil again in like 1000 miles, to see if your getting more or less of those metal shavings....if you have alot more than collect them and save, them

4- you can let acura know...i know i said ^^^^^^ that they wont do anything, which they wont, but maybe they can put it on record???

This is your motor oil and not your transmission fluid? Right?

Honda's filters are made by fram which makes shit filters...

So dont get a Honda filter is the general consensus here on AZ

there is also somewhere that sells a strong magnet that you stick onto your oil filter to catch metal shavings. I think that any strong magnet thats about 1" in diameter will suffice...

your still breaking your motor in somehow?

when my bike was being broken in, it would have metal shavings like that in the oil... but that was normal for a bike. Not an 01 CL with 45k miles...

do about 2 more oil changes, once every week. dont push on the motor in the mean while

also get that magnetic drain plug.

it has nothing to do w/ ur tranny.

if it gets worse, remove the oil pan and see how much more is in there and visually inspect the block from bottom.
also remove the vavle covers and look into those too.

do you have that oil still? it can be sent out for analysis and you can get very exact and acurate results as to what that particulate is.

to me it looks like the filter is disentegrated.

that 'yellow' stuff is called TAMPER SEAL. every quick lube or place that deals with oil changes REQUIRE applying tamper seal on all drain/fill plugs they touch. its for insurance reasons so they don't get ripped off. as for the metal shavings inside that little puddle of oil... thats real bad. always check to see if you have enough oil inside the motor, and change it regularly... thats if those little specs in the oil ARE metal, if its falling apart like you said, then its just tamper seal.

what happens is after awhile, if the oil doesn't get changed, then additives inside the oil will breakdown thus not lubricating like it should be, causing your gears to grind, literally.

i work at a quick lube, and tamper seal comes in different colors, mines yellow like the one in your picture, the yellow things nothing, don't freak out.

magnet won't work, aluminum and brass. Are you sure it's not the sealant from the oil pan?

Like 99% sure its not the oil pan sealant. You'd know if it was. Oil would be spilling everywhere. As for the magnetic drain plug, thumbs up. Alluminum and brass? You meAn the oil pan. They were talking about magnetic drain plugs, not literally slap a magnet on the pan.
