Me vs. new Cobra:(

well as much as i'd like to lie to you guys and say i won, i didnt. BUT, i did not loose by that much, he was only like 1 1/2 car lengths ahead of me offf the line. He killed me off the line. when i pulled up next to him we started to laugh, then we hit it again at about 50ish(not to sure but something like that) so when my engine hit vtech @ 5000, i swear to god we were head to head for a good 7 or 8 seconds. if i get the V-AFC, i will end his life. but it was fun. but to be honest i was scared to race him b/c i thought i was going to get wooped on bad, but it wasnt that bad.

So I guess it's Type S Smokes All minus one Mustang Cobra?? He he

Personally, I'd rather have a fairly quick, nice looking, luxury sport coupe than a muscle car that just goes fast on a straight road. But that's just me

The current and previous year Cobras' got independent rear suspension, and that makes it a real sports car that performs well on in the mountains and the track, unlike live-axle Mustangs that work decently on a roadcourse (kinda surprising, huh?) but reveals its musclecar underpinnings anywhere the road isn't glass-smooth.

Anyways, my point is that Cobras are fast in the curvy stuff too.

If you don't buy some better tires you're the one who'll be in the bushes.

Did you get a decent launch when you raced from a stand still?

A Cobra Mustang is one of those cars that is very dependent on the driver for good performance. If you've ever driven a Cobra, you know exactly what I mean.

A CL-S is basically fool proof to race. Pretty much just smash the gas and let the auto tranny do its stuff.

A Cobra driver has major wheel spin to worry about when starting out, plus gear changes, since every Cobra sold is manual trans.

That being said, a well driven Cobra will tear you a new bunghole, V-AFC or not

According to other people, w/ Intake, Headers exhuast and V-AFC, i beleive was clocked @5.4. 5.4= faster than the cobra. Right? i know someone has posted that time before w/ those mods. And even if its not 5.4, still must be close enough to hang w/ the cobra. I dont know, u tell me.

5.4 for a CL-S with those mods? I don't know about that......

But anyway, 5.4 is about the correct time to 60 for a Cobra, but don't forget that 0-60 is not this cars strong point. It'll start pulling hard after 60 MPH.

Like I said, if you come across a well driven Cobra, you can really hang it up, but you've got a chance if the guy doesn't know how to get the most out of his car. Just my opinion.

I totaly agree w/ you. but i swear that a Cobra does not do 5.4. B/c i read in some mag they were testing SS's, Cobras, and I think a Firebird(or some P.O.S. like that) and the SS won 0-60 w/ 5.4. i pretty sure the Cobra did it in like 5.5/5.6. Leme try to find more research on this. tell me what u think.

A mustang cobra will undoubtedly smoke you with or without a v-afc. I personally think a v-afc is a waste of money. The only way that you would beat a cobra is with nos or some type of forced induction. Or you can get some motor work done.

Read this thread about the v-afc

$349 bucks for a good upgrade is nothing! Get it! Hell, I can't even get a small little chip for my M3 for that kinda cash (just to up the hp by like 8hp). Go for it!

Even on the turns the Cobra is pretty impressive. I wouldn't mess with it. On the other hand if it doesn't start...

You are WAY off!!!

This is what www.autosite.com reports (from Car & Driver)...

http://www.autosite.com/new/grabbag/perform/2449.asp

'01 Cobra
0-60 - 4.50
1/4 Mile - 13.00
Top Speed - 177MPH
Skidpad - 0.99

All those numbers add up to (KILLING A TYPE S). It will not only stomp a Type S in a straight line but it will also kill it in the twisties.

Don't get me wrong, I love my CL-S, but I'm also realistic about what it can hang with.

Sorry, apparently the 5.4L is the Cobra R (according to edmunds.com) The specs from Ford's website say 5.4sec for the regular Cobra.

You go to school at Virginia Tech?

Just wondering what the VTECH is all about.

;-)

As for the VAFC, how much do you expect to gain?
