May be getting car back (6 month repair)

Well, after nearly 6 months of repairs from a major accident I may be getting the car back. Needless to say that everytime someone turned around the damage was worse than previously thought, I even had a lawyer and independent estimator and still couldn't get it totalled (tried with the at fault party's insurance and my insurance). Anyhow it's about that time that I may actually get the car back and so I'm starting to get back in touch with Honda since it is a lease vehicle. I'm really concerned that Honda is going to want some major cash at the end of the lease since the damage bill will raise the question "Why wasn't it totalled?". Has anyone every ran into this situation here? I'd really like some advice because I really don't want to have to pay anything at the end of the lease unless I have exceessive milage but I doubt that will happen since it has been parked for 6 months. I have no clue how much the bill ultimately will be but I since it was literally just 1k away from being totalled it's clearly way beyond that. My guess puts it right about what I paid for it new give or take $2k. Also, has anyone heard of diminished value being awarded to a leasee? Thanks!

I don't think you will have an issue. If the car wasn't totaled, & because the loss payee is Honda, They would know it wasn't totaled. Sounds like you weren't at fault, so Honda should have no problems with it.

Yeah, accident wasn't my fault, there is no doubt about liability (2 pedestrian eye witnesses, at fault party admitted guilt, police report assigns guilt to the person that hit me, and their insurance company has accepted liability and fault). I've done everything possible to get the car totalled and I've kept Honda in the loop most of the time. All mechanical repairs were done at an Acura Dealer and the body work was done at the only shop in town that they recommended. I've got the lease return inspection company checking with Honda to see if they can do an inspection now just to be sure. I'm trying to have a positive attitude about the whole thing and I'm trying to stay in that blue sky area and have a frame of mind that the body shop will fix anything should problems arrise. They've committed that if something comes up at the end of lease then they'll take care of it, but they'd only have 30 days to get that done and since it took them 6 months to repair it this time I'm guessing that 30 days wouldn't be enough.

I bought a second vechile because my rental coverage expired after 30 days.
It was only supposed to take 4 to 6 weeks to complete in the first place, but well, it's been like 5 or 6 times that.

shit dude...I feel for you.

My car was gone for repairs for 4 weeks after I had a (relatively) minor accident...and man I missed it every single day.

So are you going to keep the second car as a beater, and have the acura as like your weekend car

i was able to get an apperance allowance of $500 when I got in a wreck. It was a Jeep Wrangler and i pointed out some paint issues and told them that i'm not happy with it and my insurance company told me not to sign anything till i'm happy. They said they will take it up with the other insurance company. So i used that to bluff the other guys insurance co into giving me $500 apperance allowance. I was pissed cause i just bought it and a front end wreck is never good on resale.

It totally pissed me off the whole situation. Literally we were going to trade it in that weekend on a new MDX, so it really pissed me off. We only had one car at the time, and we do really good with one car so we didn't invision getting a second for a while, so I'm not sure how much the Acura will get driven even though it's nicer than the current mode of transportation. I'm not sure I'll even feel safe driving it, let alone with a loved one in the car. Who knows what will happen to that car. I'm probably going to try to sell it to see what happens. Who knows, right now and for the past 6 months I've been just trying to get it fixed right.
