Talking In the market for 3.2 cl type S

Hey you all, this is my first thread on this awesome forum/website and i'm hella anxious to get started. Alright, with that out of the way, here's my question(s). I've heard that the 01-03 Acura Cl-S models have had problems with their tranny's and i was wondering if the 03 CL type S 6MT had ANY specific problems i would have to worry about before i purchased it. Second, if the car comes with a Navi-system, does that Navi system have the capability to play DVD's, MP3s ? Thank you guys soo much.

Welcome to the forum !!

I did the same thing you are doing when I was looking for a car. I did a lot of research here, and decided that I wanted a 6spd.

There aren't any problems with the 6spd that I've encountered that haven't shown up in the in the automatic CL's (like the brake rotor warping issue).

If you do a seach here for - DVD conversion - or - Navi Conversion - you'll find a lot of threads.

Good luck in your search...

Go for it. I've had 4 Acura coupes, great cars. The engine and 6 speed in the CLs are great. I'm on my 2nd 03 6speed CLS, the first one was the wrong color, got my current one in a neighboring state via autotrader. Only problem I've had is the headlight seal leaked and was replaced under warranty.

Here's my CL, I dropped it with Comptech springs after this photo.

Yeah, the build quality isn't what I expected (rattles in cold weather, etc), but overall I'm happy with it. I have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon.

My only real complaint is that the discontinuation of the CL has effected resale value. Bad for me as a current owner, good for you as a buyer... There are some great deals out there. There was a 6spd like mine (SMR) in NY w/ thirty something thousand miles on it for 18K a couple of weeks ago.

My CLS is still stock, so I'm not the best person to answer your mod questions. I tend to be more zing then bling, so springs, headers and intake seem like worthy modifications to me tho'. Check out: www.c-c-c.net

I know, they're pretty cheap, that was my first reaction, and i was wondering why it was sooo cheap. It has both luxury and sportiness, and to tell you the truth, that's the only car that i found that was under 20k and has hella bang for the buck. Greenmonster, you said something about rattling in cold weather? wow, why is that, and does anybody else have the same problem???? You guys are hella cool. thx

I've had very few rattles in either CLS I had. I did need some tape put on (dealer bulletin) the surround of the sunroof to fix a rattle in the seal. No problem since. I'm in TX so not a lot of cold weather here anyway.

6 speeds with Navi are rarest (about 800 made?), versus 2700 total 6 speeds. Most common are silver and black, then anthracite, red, blue, and white. (I think).
You can't beat this car and what you get for the price, (when new or used).

There were actually about 3511 6spds made. Acura must have underestimated when they mentioned the 2700 number before production began. If you look at the detailed list of the 6spd production, there was a break in production at around the 2700 mark... Acura probably decided to make more then 2700 'cause the 6spd were selling better then they thought (and the automatics less then they thought). Just a guess on my part, but still interesting...

Robone32, if you wondering where the rarity factor comes from, that info is contained in this thread in the FAQ forum:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2324154

White is the rarest 6spd color.

I'll sell you my CL-S. $20,000. More mods than 90% of the people on the forum and its faster than 99.9% of the people on the forum.

the 6-speed is awesome. get it, you'll love it.

as for problems, when i bought it i knew it needed a crank shaft sensor but since it was covered by warranty, i bought it anyway.
