Manual Gear Top Speed...

What is the top speed for each gear? can someone find out? My car hasn't broken in yet, so I really don't want to push the car to redline on every single gear. Thank you.

Ever noticed your RPM gauge ? Common sense tells you ! When your engine sounds like it going to blow, time to shift.....its called red line rpm's........!

He was just wondering what the max mph in each gear is. A completely rational question.

I don't have a 6 speed CLS, but the manual for my 6-speed Z lists the maximum speed in each gear. Maybe check your manual?

No... it is not in the manual... I checked it cover to cover... it only listed the best point to shift for each gear, but not the max speed. thx...

I would like to know also. It's good info, so you know what speed is safe to downshift. Like when passing someone on the HW. I'm doing 90mph in 6th. Can I downshift to 3rd or is that speed too fast? I need 4th then? Stuff like that.

Is this normal driving? Or when racing? I don't think it's healthy for the car to be pushed like this everytime. What you are saying is that you can drive in 2nd the whole way while driving in the city. That's not right.

Robg is close, 1st-32 2nd-64 3rd-89 4th-120 5th-142 6th-?....I know this car is capable of speeds over the 149 governing, but its a matter of getting that thing removed...also like someone else said, if you dont want to hurt your baby, shift at like 4000RPM's, then you won't even get into VTEC

You let me know how the tachometer (that's the "RPM gauge") helps when you're downshifting and want to know what speeds are low-stress downshifts for each gear.

I think Car & Driver and Road & Track have a “MAX speed in gear” chart when they do the reviews.
If anyone has one of these handy, check that out.

Explain to me exactly how you are going to hurt the engine by taking the car into V-TEC, after all that is what makes the HONDA/ACURA cars so great.

I was hoving around 147 in 5th gear one time... and I was just about to shift to 6th and it was still pulling hard (turbocharged, of course!)... but my exit came up rather quickly and I had to slow down... I think 160+ is possible

You don't hurt anything by going into VTEC. Use it and enjoy it.

Acura suggests breaking in the car below 4K RPM for the first 600 miles.

I think he was just trying to say that you'll 'baby' your engine if you keep the RPMs low.

I've always wondered if there is a MTBF rating for engines and if this varies with engine speed. I wonder how long you can rev the car at redline, or just below, and how long it can hold there before some failure event occurs.
