Major car problems?! Need advice please!
Major car problems?! Need advice please!
Hi.
Basic facts:
Car = 2001 CL Type S
Mileage 103K
Trans replaced under warranty at 55K
2nd Gear feeder line added at 98K.
Trans fluid changed (3 quarts only) @ 102K.
Live and work in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Problems:
Wife took the car today and she called me to say that the idle was surging wildly when she came to a stop (even in neutral) and that it didn't seem to downshift properly (related?). No warning lights.
We switched cars at my office and I took the CL-S for a ride. First I turned it off and then started it again. Idle was ok. Started driving it and the shifts seemed "off".... not sure how else to describe it, slower, deliberate and more noticeable. Seemed like as I slowed, the trans was trying to down shift and the idle would drop, like when are driving a stick shift car and you press the clutch and change gears, the idle drops somewhat. That's what this felt like.
At some point, I pushed a little harded on the accelerator and the check engine, both VSA lights came on. I turned off and restarted the car again after pulling into a parking lot. Check engine light came on, but VSA lights off. I then took a 5 minute drive, during which drive I accelerated fairly quickly, braked firmly and tried both sportshift and full auto drive modes and the car seemed to be pretty much okay, but the check engine light is still on.
Several questions:
1) Can the check engine light be triggered by a fault in the trans?
2) In the event that the trans is going, anyone have any luck getting Acura to repair a trans w/ over 100K?
3) Any thoughts on what may be going on? Anyone with similar symptoms?
Look forward to your advice!
-Michael

Please check Transmission section on the board,
1) Yes
2) your dealer might do it in good faith and cover everything. There was a case just like yours in the Transmission section, where he had to pay for the labor.
3) I believe the oil jet might have caused your transmission to fail, which have been seen by other members.
Mods might want to move this thread to Transmission section.

Great news!
I ran up to Rosenthal Acura and the really nice service manager and a tech pulled the code and like us000011 suggested, it was the IAC valve. I was convinced it was the trans! As it turns out, the light went off by itself, so I'm going to wait to replace it until it comes back on.... I'm so relieved....
