Question Lower or Body Kit

I am currently lowered 2" with Eibach springs and am wearing the hell out of good tires. My options are to spend $1K on camber kit parts (plus labor), or to revert to stock springs and put on a body kit. The $ are going to be pretty close, and I think the look might even be better with a body kit. Wifey has a TL with stock springs and a body kit and it looks just as low as my CL.

The handling is not much of a concern to me as I have the CT sways... and quite honestly, I noticed little difference when I switched from an 01 CLS with stock springs and sways to this ride with Eibach springs and CT sways.

What would you do? And, what body kit would you go for?

$1k on camber kit. what the hell kind of stuff are you buying?

you could probably get all the parts for $3-400 max, and if you are a DIYer at all then you could probably get the camber kit installed for < $100.

Ingalls adjustable control arm for the front... $273.16 ea and the Ingalls adjustable camber link for the rear at $147.17 ea. Add shipping and convert to Can $ and it is over $1K. I had a performance shop quote me $1500 Can installed.

Holy crap. That's expensive. Personally, I'd go with the camber kit. Other than the Ronjon kit, the other kits look like shit. I'm sure you can find better prices on the camber kit though. Check the Blackmarket or e-bay. And from what I heard, they really ain't that tough to install. I was planning on getting some for my car and got quoted about $200 to do all and that included an alignment.

Thanks guys... I appreciate the advice. I know that it would be a step backward to return to stock height. The other day I parked beside a stock 01 CLS and you're right... the stance just didn't look right. It was good to see them side by side... you could really tell the difference.

The prices I quoted for the parts are in USD... pulled directly off the Ingalls website. Ihave been watching the blackmarket and ebay for deals, but haven't found anything yet.

the ingalls front arms go for less than 300 for BOTH fronts and your fine to get SPC rears. they work great. its just the SPC fronts that suck. use the internet to its max potential! there are deals EVERYWHERE! google is your friend

I got my SPC balljoint fronts for $200 shipped on ebay and did a partial DIY install. Had to have a shop press out the stock balljoints and press in the adjustable ones, then I did the washer trick for the rears, and just used a level against the tire to see if it was close enough.

so it cost me $250 + about 2 hours of my own time for the whole camber thing and alignment. I'm gonna go a bit lower and get a corner balance here pretty soon.

I used to drive my 01 CLS agressively as I had good tires on it (ES100s), but this 6 speed came with Toyos that were total crap. So I was just burning them off last summer. I noticed a big difference when i put the CT sways on my 01. When I got the 03, I transfered the sways from the 01 (it was already lowered), and it felt about the same in handling. I guess it might have been good to drive it for a bit before i put the sways on so I could tell if there was an incremental improvement. The way I did it, the effect of lowering and sways were combined.

And thanks for the encouragement on the DIY... I am usually a bit nervous about working on the car myself, but I don't think this is too difficult.

Talking

Just bought NEUSPEED lowering springs, Ingalls front camber kit, and SPC back camber kit all for under $700. Damn homie.....the Ingalls I bought were $279 for both front control arms. Below are some useful links I used to order my parts. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the links... that is a great price on the control arms.

Any reason why you went with Neuspeed springs over Eibach? Is the drop similar?

Well, I was going to go with Comptech....but my boy Tasler told me that they are over priced, and that I shouldn't spend loot on those. He wrote down a couple names and NEUSPEED happened to be one of them...and boy was he right....Comptech is over priced. :| Went with the NEUSPEED because they were half the price of the Comptech springs. The drop is a little less too but hell.....I am not complaining one bit. Heh....babble yes...complain...no!
