Looking for pics, 235/45/17 on stock..
Hey guys. Still kicking around the idea of going with 235/45 on my stock 03 CL-S rims.
Can someone please post some close up pics of a 235/45 on their stock rims? Kinda hoping for a shot standing over the wheels looking down. I just want to see if they look to wide for the wheel.
Thanks all!!

Naaaaa.. Personally I think that the 45's dont have enough side wall for me. But the 50 might have to much with the 235's... I already point and laugh at the "beaners" around here. Dont wanna be one of them.
A couple of things.
Officially, a 235 tire is too wide for the stock rims, although I did run 235/45/17s on stock wheels myself. A 40 profile will make the fitment dangerous.
Secondly, the 235/45 looks too big on the car. The tire height is too much and makes the tires look balloonish.
I was so happy when I went back to 225/45's. They look much better and are a legitimate fit on our wheels.
Also, I think the fact that the 235's were too wide for the wheels made them wear on the edges faster.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. But the 235/45 and the 215/50 have the same over all height and the same side wall height.
It is just that there are soooo many tire options if you go with a 235/45 as opposed to a 215/50....

Drive down to York and you can look at mine in person. Have had none of the problems/complaints/issues etc as reported above. Much better handling than stock, looks like they belong on the wheel. Variances between manufactures cause certain tires to appear larger/smaller than others. Overall, highly satisfied with this decision.
Thank you so much for the pics... I take it that they werent taken today???? Since we again had snow and slop..
How do you like the Sumitomo's? Have that worn faster than expected???

These sumis have never seen snow. As far as wear is concerned, I CROSS rotate them every oil change (7,500) miles and all seems well. Then again, I only rotated them once.
Sweet. Hey thanks for all the pics guys..
We should be getting paid to be a part of this site. It is because of people like you all that the aftermarket sector sell more items.!!!

235/40/17 is crazy. That's over an inch too small. Put it this way, 275/40/17 would have the same rolling diameter as stock.
You can put 235/45/17 or 245/45/17 on CLS rims as long as they are z rated. It's outside of spec but not a big deal (I had 245/45/17 on stock TLS wheels 6.5 inches wide)
What basically happens is that the shape of the sidewall flex is slightly different. As opposed to being a gentle arc from shoulder to wheel, it flexes a bit more at the shoulder. This results in slightly less stiffness in the sideall and a slightly smaller contact patch for the tire.
