looking at buyin a 'new' CL

OK, so im a 1st gen-er, love and I love my little 2.2 to death, but its time for something new, I was looking at a RSX Type-S or a new Si Coupe... but then came across some CL Type-S that look real nice and juicy to me, I mean a good CL-S will kill any of the other 2 easy

really what I want to know is if theres anything I should need to watch out for or anything like that when I go to take a look at it, I know for us old 1st gens that there are a few things to watch out for but anyways... yeah its an 02 Type-S Automatic....... the only thing that bothers me about the 2nd gens that Ive got on my 1st gen is the E-brake handle, sure I probably wont use it, but its always nice to have......... other than that I love the 2nd gens, I remember driving one a while back it was a base model automatic and it was fun

i would not buy an 01 or 02 automatic, go for the 03 6 speed.
just look at the transmission threads currently in the main forum. no bueno.

if you can drive a stick, definitely go with a 6 speed

Get the latest model you can find for the $.

Auto, 6mt whatever. With the exception of the trans there's not really a difference in problems.

All have bad brakes, dirty IAC valves, broken IMRC controls, the 01 HID's seem to be going out now, bad ticking purge valves, a few other things............

But these are all minor & can be fixed for not much $ if they come up.

At least test-drive a 6-speed to see what you will be missing.

i got my 01 CLS automatic a month ago, and this is what i DIDNT do, i wish i had...i still havent ridden in a 6 speed, so i dont know what im missing out on, but im not gonna lie, im really happy with my '01, seriously not a problem with it...its an awesome car for a 19 year old like myself, i dont need a faster car to possibly kill myself with....and its really nice, at least nicer than my 1996 accord, or my 2000 accord both my previous cars.. good luck finding a CLS auto or manual!

They are not as hard to find as you would think...

If you're looking for a specific color combo, then you might have to look a little longer, but there are always alot of 6spds for sale on autotrader. There's 60 listed nationwide right now on autotrader, and that's not counting ebay, cars.com, the black market here, etc, etc.

yeah I ran an autotrader search its a whole lot of base models and auto type-S models, theres only 1 6 speed in like 50 miles of me, and I much prefer 6 speed because of 1 thing, the E-brake HANDLE, I hate that pedal BS nonsense......... but I hear the ATs have VSA while the 6 speeds dont, is this true????

Ya the 6 speeds have a LSD in place of the VSA. I remember taking a left turn a little to quick on a rainy day, needless to say it kept me from an expensive repair. Sometimes I wished I picked up a 6 speed, but I'm good with the auto. I love this freakin' car.

thats the debate ive got right now, I like to have an E brake to fall back on if I ever need to force it over, but id prefer the VSA to an LSD

i drove a auto for a few days. hated it. love the 6-speed. well i hate auto's in general. 6 speed ftw. the rsx and new si are pretty nice. i like the 4 door si more. good cars to choose from, it's really your choice.

but if u do get a cl-s, go with a 6 speed. it'll take a good search for one, but it's well worth it.

at this point is all jumbled in the air, hell I might just suck up the extra payments and get a TSX or something......... really its all down to this, buy an NSX and keep the 1st gen CL as a daily, or replace the aging CL with a new or newer car......... leaning towards the former, but dont know how much longer my CL will hold out without a serious overhaul though

nope "N" and "R" are too far apart for a typo and what not

I did mean NSX, theres a juicy lookin Automatic one in San Antonio (4-5 hour roadtrip) for 23 grand, not sure if its still up though... theres another one a 5 speed goin for 30 grand in Oklahoma (another 3-4 hour drive)........... automatic is looking like my winner because of simple price considerations, maybe a manual swap later on, maybe a C32B swap at the same time, but thats later on, but still auto or not its still an NSX ... but 1st things 1st I gotta get hired for work .... but for a bit more than the 15 or 16 grand CLs I can get a whole NSX all to myself

I've had both the 6MT and auto. If your under warranty dont worry about getting the auto, my CL-S had its tranny replaced at 72k by the previous owner under warranty and hasn't had a problem since, im at 93k. Also my TL-S was on the original tranny till 86k when I totaled it and it had no problems what so ever and I didn't drive like a grandma either. The 6MT has one of the hardest clutches to get used to and i've driven practically ever car and tons of exotics with manual transmissions at work including multiple Porche's.

Obviously if you own a 6MT, you bash on auto's for their reliability even if they have not experienced the slush box and its flaws, its just nature/bragging rights. Everyone has their own opinion and i've owned both.

well my auto box has some issues... but there are tons of problems out there with our 1st gen autos........ I like autros because I can manually cycle gears when I want and then on a lazy day all I gotta do is drop it into D and drive... especially in rushour traffic
