five years ago the neon was number 1 in its class
since then the
Pontiac Sunfire, Chevrolet Cavalier, civic, Corolla, Mazda Protege
have blown them out of the market .
the sunfire ,cavalier have been one two,for three years now with the civic running third.
revamping the neon has caught everyone by surprise,
we'll see the neon #1 for a few years before the next model change for the competors.

check your local auto wrecking yard
up here in Vancouver the #1 car for wipeouts is the mustang,
and the average age of drivers for those cars are 25-35.
the no 2 car is the civc/integra
imagine that most young people can't control a integra/civic whats going to happen with those neons.
the average 18-22 year old drives like an idiot image them with that type of power.
wrapping them around telephone poles is no big deal they'll only kill themselves. I'm more concern when they take out and kill innocent drivers. it might be one of of us.

not all but the average can't.
ItalianStallion if your a good driver than great i hope you can continue till you get my age.
statistics back my arguement up.
between the age of 16-25 years old is a 95% chance that they'll have there first accident.
why are insurance priems double to triple compared to a driver in his fourties-fifties.
every age group has their bad drivers. but its less likley that a 40-50 year old is going to wrap his car around a pole or endanger other peoples lives than a young driver.

i just want to show that while young people tend to be more careless, we're not all this way. it seems to be the idea that a fairly fast car + a young person always = horrific speeding accidents, we're not that bad, just low on the experience side, thats all.

my kid is only 19 and is a fairly good driver,
and i belive there are more like you and him out there
he has had no accidents or tickets but everyone one of his group of friends has had an accident or has lost ther licenses.
4 stangs
3 intergra
1 Subaru Impreza
2 civic.
the stangs crowd has been in a combination of 12 accidents and 2 out of the 4 have lost thier licenses including the 3 intergra guys..
its pretty bad that my kid does all the driving and refuses to ride as a passenger with his buddies.

also, RSM has had a supercharger out for the cavalier Z24, since 2000!! its makes the 2,700 pound car push well over 200hp, and comes with a 3 year warranty! At the track guys at www.j-body.org have been known to put down 12.9's!! but if I posted on here that I would slap on that supercharger, and rape all honda's and acura's(save maybe the nsx), you guys would tell me to go f myself with my POS car, right? so how is the neon any different? cars in that class are all crap!(save honda's and toyota's)

That car reminds me of the Dodge Omni GLH-S Turbo I used to have back in the late 80’s.
It was cheap as SHIT but I beat up on unsuspecting pony cars all the time.

A lot of bang for the $$$... needs some real rubber though.
They may be better performing, but I still like the fact that my CL's interior isn't going to fall apart in a year (and isn't cheap feeling to start). Different class of car, but kudos to Dodge for lighting a fire.
It will be obvious who's driving one of these Neons... no fool in their right mind would pull up to a CL in a regular Neon and give a
"look". If one does, beware

not bad...i like the numbers. Its good that a domestic car is finally a real contender with turboed civics and the such. I look foward to the nice aftermarket goodies.
This is a good age to be a car-lover folks. Theres now tons of sports cars starting from low to high 20s...it'll be interseting next time I buy a car

Was there ever a better time to be a car enthusiast?
Look at all the competition heating up with affordable fast cars.
The Neon SRT is HOT!!!
For the select individuals bitching about it.......Shutup, it's a $20k pocket rocket that can made even faster with minimal $$$$.

It's built off the same platform as the Neon small car, but Dodge's SRT-4 will not carry any visible notations of the Neon brand when it goes on sale next year.
That's because the SRT-4's target market has an unfavorable view of the Neon, according to Chrysler Group's top marketing executive.
“The problem in that set (of buyers) was Neons aren't cool,” Executive Vice President Jim Schroer tells Ward's. “Neons are rental cars (in their minds).”
I wonder why?
So Stop using the word NEON. It is the Dodge SRT-4.
Chrysler is taking this car very seriously. The PVO team is a serious group. Many of them, like many of you. They just have to be aware of their budget. You fools forget that in this price range the cars can't be everything. In order to get the performance numbers they want, and expect. They have to take money out in other little areas. In the past they would just take the money out of what ever was logical and easy. This time around, this whole new PVO group, is attacking this project with everything taken into context. They are working on sound deading, better interior components, switches, knobs, handles, rattles and so on. They want an overall look and feel (within budget.) All initial indicators show they have done just that. THis car is going to be a really hot seller. Expecially if the rumors of a AWD version, comes to fruition.
This car is not just a bunch of bolt ons. They started with a chassis that fit their mold, and reworked it from the bottom up.
Astrboy: I'll see what I can do.

Hmm... Well the engine in the Mini is based on the Neon's 2.0L, it's a joint developement between Chrysler and BMW (Rover group before BMW sold it off) Rover was out right in the beginning, so for all intents and purposes it's been a BMW/Chrysler thing all along. They started with the Neon's 2L and went from there. The 1.4L and 1.6L are designed and built in a joint agreement between Chrysler and BMW. They come out of a factory in Brazil. As a mtter of fact, the 1.6L engine will most likely appear in the Neon for export overseas.

I stand corrected...But I still think ANY Chrysler product is JUNK!
Givin the choice today between the SRT and the Mini Cooper S...I would still take the Cooper over the DODGE.
Lets face it THE BIG 3 SUCK!
