Lo-Jack sticker anyone ??

i was at the dealership today for service so i was checking out a brochure they had for LoJack. Its seems like a good and effective protection but it can cost up to $2500! I can imagine spending that much on something alot more..umm.. fun? (e.g better tires, header, navi conv. etc...)

Anyway my question is, is it possibe to get just a LoJack sticker which u can put on ur car window or whatnot. Sorta like how ppl have home protection signs and stickers outside their house but they may not ACTUALLY have that security

Dont know exactly what u get when u actually buy LoJack but i'm pretty sure they stickers and such on ur car... so anyway to get JUST the stickers

thay don't make stickers. Lojack doesn't advertise their product on ANY cars. they keep it a secret so the thief won't know. Lojack doesn't even tell you where they put the transmitter (it's diff. on every car).

That's exactly the point. No stickers. No advertisement. The thief just gets caught and you get your car back (best world scenario).

I would think that if you put a Lo/Jack sticker on your car it would be an advertisement that translates to, "I just got this stupid sticker on my car and no Lo/Jack, so please steal me now, now, now!!!"

I've noticed that none of us put Lo/Jack equipped on our signatures - but I bet that a good chunk of us have them. I guess we've all bought into the Lo/Jack stealth detection concept.

According to Lo/Jack, Canada is licensed but not yet operational.

I think the reason for not advertising it is so that the thief will not know it is equipped and therefore not try to disable/remove it.
It would be pretty stupid to get one only to have the thief remove it and drive off

wrong, LoJack will cost you $400-500 bucks. You will get $2500 from LoJack company if your car gets stolen and will not be found in less than 24 hours. Plus you get insurance discount. I am getting aroung 40-50$ discount per year -- I think its better to spend 400$ on LoJack than to buy some stupid Alarm system that everyone ignores....

Up to a point yes. Think about this: If everybody saw your logic and started getting lojack in their cars, lojack would have to expand. the bigger they get, the more employees they hire giving more of a chance they hire somebody dishonest. A dishonest person could leak the secrets. the secrets could be sold to the black market. Some wacko could produce a detector and figure out where it is and how to disarm it. Eventually this tech. would move down to common thieves and lojack will go the way of the Club. Sure it may sound far fetched (and in a way it is), but it can happen and I bet much later in the future something will be revealed. just wait...

While this scenario is quite possible, it still sounds down the road ahead... all we have is what is available now and can work around that. I'm sure if the above played out then there would be a new, better technology to replace lojack.

Almost always you can guarantee its in the trunk. Near the antenna or rear brake lights for wiring. I've had it in my other cars and they put it in the same area everytime

Good logic, but Lo/Jack is already pretty expanded and quite popular in some locales. In Los Angeles, for instance, almost everybody I know with a car worth over $20K has one. With carjacking quite common this is realtively cheap insurance.

I know personally of three success stories:
With Lo/Jack so common, a lot of thieves will just drive the stolen vehicle to a mall parking lot for 24-48 hours to see if it gets tracked before they take it to their chop shop (or whatever). The result is return of (typically) a minimally damaged car.

It took little to convince me that Lo/Jack is a good idea. It doesn't seem like the criminals have figured out how to outsmart the Lo/Jack system (it doesn't activate until you report the car stolen, hence supposedly not detectabe with a scanner). Lo/Jack has been on the national market for more then a decade - should have been more then enough time for the 'professional' criminal to figure out.

Just make sure that the police departments in the area where you live, work and travel most often have the receiving units or it will be absolutely useless to you. Most of the major cities (like L.A., Chicago, etc) have them but some of the smaller cities and towns do not. Here in Western MA where I live, most of the small towns do not have it and those that do only have a few cars equipped with the receivers. If one of those cars isn't on patrol when your LoJack-equipped car is stolen, it's like you don't even have it installed.

But yes, I agree with you that no one pays attention to alarms any more.

Good point, in this case it will only do you good if they are headed to a major city.

And you know this, how? Lojack doesn't tell you where they put it.

Maybe, but it took my Aunt a day for her Porsche.
