Light on, light off

This is probably gonna be expensive--again, some more, etc. My driver's side headlight (lowbeam) has been out for nearly 3 weeks, or so I thought. I received replacement bulbs and haven't put them in yet (another story). Today I walked out of a restaurant after lunch, hit the unlock button and BOTH headlights came on (and no, not the high beams). WTF's this mean? I have an expensive fix comin' on again? New ballast time?

One of mine was doing the same thing a while back. It was just a loose connection. Hopefully, that's what it is.

^^ Mine's like that on the pass. side. When the dealer replaced the invertor and bulb, they said it takes awhile for the color to be the same. I guess the color actually comes with age.

BTW: It's really not that noticeable unless you're really looking for it. Then again, I've never passed by my self at night.

Cheif F1 Fan, I hope a lose connection is all it is. I know replacing all of that stuff is expensive in you're not under warranty.

Ballast and inverter are interchangeable words for the same part. I think the part is around $340.

Ugh... I hate reading threads like this... I thought I'd keep my 6spd for along time, but I might want to rethink that as I get over 75K miles (only 42K miles so far)...

I thought HID's were supposed to last the life of the car? Wasn't that one of the benifits?

^^ They aren't supposed to burn out. But take into consideration, just like anything else, things break or fail.

You know what the worst part is?? I just bought and received this past Monday, new replacement bulbs that cost $240 for a pair. I thought why replace one bulb for 200+ from Acura when I will have to replace the other one likely very soon? Thus I purchased 2 at a time thinking it was the damn bulb. Now I have new HID's I could give a shit about and will likely have to spend more $$$ to fix what's really wrong.

Hey guys, i've been having problems with my driver side low beam as well. I thought it was the inverter because sometimes it comes on when I cut on the lights, and sometimes it doesn't.

HOWEVER... recently it will come on fine, but cut off while driving... would the inverter still cause this?

you could of gotten some no name brand bulbs on ebay for $100 a pair.

also, as far as i know, the system is the same for the '02-'03 TL as it is for the '01-'03 CL so you can also check that out. you can find headlgihts with all the bulbs and what not for about $300 a pop. if you do find one, buy it, take what you need and resell the rest.

Red face

How old is your battery? Factory? Cause mine was and at 4 years old, I noticed one night while driving my passenger low beam wasn't lit. I also noticed if my lights were on when i start the car, they would flicker/flash/dim. I noticed my cranking wasn't as fast as a new car. AFTER having a dead battery and replacing it, did it have enough juice to fire the light and never had a prob again. ? dunno if that helps, but i'd check to see wassup with your battery.

Hey Chief, old thread but my car's starting to do the same thing. Did you replace the inverter / ballast or did you find a loose wiring? Let me know. Thanks.

Sorry to bring back the old thread...my driver side low beam works intermitantly too. Has anyone installed an aftermarket HID kit?

Check this - my local Acrua dealship quoted me $1000.00 Canadian (+tax) not including labor. Think I'll try and install something myself.

^^^LoL...at the stealership again...they always are going to charge you up the arse for this stuff.

You're better off doing it yourself.

I put on aftermarket no name 8000k bulbs and they work just fine

Check with Excelerate and his Kaixen kits. I know there is a DIY in the AZine sight somewhere. Check the FAQ just to make sure there isn't one there.

I just bought new ballasts for my CL. I didnt want to go OEM because of the cost so i bought 2 ballasts out of am 03 BMW. Still same connection and everything (D2R) but will have to splice the original wiring to connect it. They where used for a year before the car was rear ended. Either way i'm going to do some custom shit when i get them so that the headlight is sealed.

Anyone find out that the wires were just loose? If so could you give us details on which wires & how you got to them?

I had one headlight go out recently, needed ballast, not the bulb as far as I know. Warranty covered it. The buyer of my first white 03 CLs told me she needed a new headlight too. It seems kinda common on these cars. I used to drive a lot with the headlights on in the daytime...ugh, I don't do that anymore.
Gotta get an extended warranty one of these days...

Damn, I hope this doesn't happen to me... I can't afford it right now.

I leave my lights on at all times (auto shut off is good) and had it happen to me only one time a couple of months ago. I haven't had it happen since and hope I don't. Gawd I am hating my car lately...
