Let's talk about bird sh*t

Ok...here's my dilemma. Everytime I claybar/wax my car, it would seem as though birds target my car more often. It amazes me that on the first day of leaving the car out in the open, it would almost be 80% probability that there would be bird crap somewhere on the body.

Now...I realize bird doo doo is harmfull to the paint...BUT...the key question is when?

Obviously you'd want that sh*t off before it dries up, but what if you never saw it untill it's already hard as a rock? Would it still continue to damage the paint even though its already in it's solid form? I tried to lightly scrape a small portion of it off when I first saw it, and it disintegrated into powder. Right now I'm hesistant to remove it since that would mean having to bring the hose out and possibly create more water spots.

Is it wrong of me to assume that damage was already done, and removing it now would make no difference then removing it later?

Well you can always carry a small spray bottle of H2O or detailer in your trunk with some old rags/socks... spray it good, it will then rehydrate the poo, then wipe it off gently.... Bird droppings have a high amount of acid in them so try and get them as soon as you can...

Literally it depends on the bird. Best way is with warm water and get it off as soon as possible. There is a huge possibility that the bird ingested dirt and sand and that will also be present. Absolutely no rubbing! A dark car is the worst in the summertime because it will etch because of the heat. Invest in a car cover?

I use Meguiar's Final Inspection to get bird shit off. The longer the bird shit stays on, the worse the damage, especially if it's a hot day like summer. I recommend checking over on www.autopia.org to see what they would say.

I have a bad problem with the bird droppings ....it has made me really pissed off since i now have four spots the size of a quarter where i removed the droppings but it has PERMANENTLY discolored the paint layer (went right thru the clearcoat). I have a bottle of TurtleWax Bug&Tar remover in trunk so as soon as I see it it comes off - but sometimes it's too ltae...if its been on there for a few hours forget it. Now I notice my wife's '95 Camaro the bird droppings come off and DO NOT affect the paint layer. Many people have said our CL paint/clearcoat is not tuff enough and I agree. I also heard that a quick shot of WD-40 will take it off without damaging the finish.

On dark cars it's more important to get it off right away. The 2 silver CL's I have had have been ok with bird crap. I have left it on for days. On my black truck though the crap burned into the paint. Damn bird must have had chili or something. I had a HUGE thick line of crap on my hood. I was away so I couldn't get to it. It was all dried up from the sun when I finally washed it off, I had an outline of the spot on the hood from it, & not anything but a repaint would get it off.

In NJ, the birds eat chili so it's really acidic!

In PA the birds must eat the CHILI in Jersey and then have a couple shots of Battery Acid on their way across the border.
I’ve got two spots on my car that have been burned through the clearcoat.
No amount of claybar or ZAINO treatments will hide them.

My wife’s new RAV4 got dive-bombed right in the center of the hood the other day.
At first I flipped because she didn’t wipe it off right away, but it came off without a trace.
Hers is silver and is MADE IN JAPAN.
Draw your own conclusions.
