Laser Interceptor Install DIY

So my laser interceptor dual kit was delivered this morning, so I'd figured I'd install it. The hardest part was mounting the sensors, but removing the grill made it much easier.

Laser Interceptor Dual Kit

Mounted the CPU to the trim under the steering wheel. One screw, and a ziptie to the insulation seemed to hold it pretty good

Mounted the switch to the empty panel here..

Everything wired, ready to and test

Everything connected, and it's working

All buttoned up.

This is to give an idea of where the CPU is.. can't see it, but it's quite acccessible

Now the fun part.. mounting the sensor.. I was trying all kinds of fun ways with the grill on the car, and finally decided to just take it off. Once I did that I noticed the brackets almost lined up perfectly with a little bending on the outside, so I didn't need to make custom ones like I was trying before.

Both mounted.

On the car. I think my passenger side sensor is toed out too much. I was drilling the hole for that alignment blind from under the grill, and I think I drilled too far forward. I'm going to wait till I test this setup before I start adjusting things.

Here's to no more LIDAR tickets

My buddy has one and has jammed LIDAR at least 5 times now.. once I was in the car. The look on the troopers face is priceless. I'm going to get it tested out one of these days so hopefully will report good results.

what doesn't work about them? they are laser shifters, they will only work on LIDAR units (when the cop is pointing the laser at you).

on KA RADAR, nothing will work unless you buy a jammer which is illegal.

OP, how much did this cost you? a 9500ci runs upwards of $1000

Got the kit for $500 shipped through a group buy on the m3 forums.

No Radar jammer for me.. just my escort 9500ix for radar. Used to have a valentine one, but I needed the red light camera GPS function of the escort. Unfortunately they have both only notified me of getting a laser ticket so far.

I could have, but the guys over at radardetectorforum.org said the grill was the best placement option, so I took their advice.

I dont really get the point...maybe its because i only speed bad if im racing... which i am very cautious about doing now because i was taken to jail for racing ~ a yr ago while racing a friends G8 w boltons ... He ran and i pulled over and he came after ME and i went to jail while he got away... whatever... my point is, if your racing its speed doesnt really matter they can take u to jail for racing ... well atleast in TX

Well, your biggest mistake was pulling over.

Id love to install a laser shifter/jammer in my car, but I need to hide it really well in order to get away with it. I drive ~30k miles a year, and the troopers here use laser. There is no defense for that other then a shifter/jammer. A detector just tells you that you got a ticket.

i ran once when i was driving my friends ek w b18b just hit neighborhoods and ditched the car, had a friend pick me up...it was close... the guy who picked me up years later ran from the cops on his bike and he ran outta gas after about 40 miles and now he has a felony on his record ...so thats why i pulled over class b mis> felony

Well if you run, youre not supposed to get caught

I ran twice and luckily got away. Both cops were sitting on the side of the road. Both times, they attempted to chase. The first, I took side streets and hid in the back of my highschool. The second time, I hid in someones driveway. That was years ago though and Im not that stupid anymore.

The heads need to stick out somewhat to help combat off axis LIDAR hits. I admit I would also like to hide them more, but I'd rather be more stealth to the gun, than have a very stealthy install. They aren't horribly noticeable if you don't know what you're looking for.

And this definitely isn't for racing.. for everyday driving.. I've gotten a few laser tickets over the years and this is just to combat the 80 in a 55 ticket I seem to get once a year. Not illegal (in FL) either. Here is a map of where it's legal to jam/shift laser:

separate unit completely.. everything is controlled through its CPU. The kit I got was $500 through a group buy. You can probably get that price if you email Cliff and ask. It's only dual, normal power sensors. He sells up to quad high power kits, which get super pricey... http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com/901.html

Its only illegal if you get caught

The #1 thing to do if you get hit with laser while running the jammer is slow down, then turn off the jammer. That way, it just looks like an error code on their lidar.

I recently got a 29 over laser ticket. I go shooting with a bunch of cops. I was talking to some of the cops recently at the range & they all said their laser guns will give them a jam code if it's being jammed. They know when you are doing it. The problem is they are not illegal so they can not do anything about it. They said when they get a reading they may pull them over anyway even if to check you out if it's worth their time.
One even said said that he will pull over a car & lie & say he got you, & then go back to his car & fiddle around & then come back & let the guy go with no ticket or warning just to slow them down.

Interesting.. I know the blinders give jam codes. This model is supposed to just give the error code. I've seen videos, but haven't seen it real world. My friend is a cop and is trying to line up one of his patrol buddies so we can test it out thoroughly

I bet they wouldn't stick out as badly if you blacked out the Wings on your grill like I did.

Grammo, nice install and nice video. The key for laser jammers to work properly, is they need to be installed properly and unobstructed. The Laser Interceptirs do a great job of not throwing jam codes. The protocol that I learned on radardetectorforum.org is when your laser jammers go off, slow down quickly to the speed limit, shut off your jammers and the police will get a reading.

Correct.. if you notice in the vid, I shut them off after slowing down.. at the very end you can hear the bootup sound again.

That is so awesome. I need to get one of those badly. Here in Connnecticut it would do great justice as i seem to stumble my way into tickets...Just got a seatbelt ticket 2 weeks ago. Luckly i have a good lawyer and he takes care of it for me though

Laser jammers are illegal in the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois, Texas and Washington DC.

Mounting it there would have lessened its effectiveness.

WOW! Sounds like a house alarm went off! I wish I could get one, but I live in Texas and I don't want my car to look like it has grown a short pair of antennae!

I figured after a couple seconds it wasn't you talking about an obsession with Alec Baldwin!!

Yea that was Carlos Diaz..

Laser Interceptor actually sells a kill switch that you can install on the unit, that if you're using in an illegal area, will kill the laser jammer firmware, and the unit will only function as a parking sensor. You can then reload the firmware when you get back home.
