While I'm not a big fan of the changes to the CL... I must say I applaud Acura for making an effort.
And most importantly... they remained loyal to current owners while giving a nice refresh to the car.
... it is apparent to me that ACURA IS LISTENING. Pretty much everything done to this car seems to be pulled straight from the requests of people on this forum and other Acura forums (such as the RSX guys)
The tailights... WE DESIGNED THEM.
The headlights... they are simply our headlights with a painted black housing. It is something that many manufacturers are doing... but more interestingly... many enthusiasts are doing. Countless RSX owners have painted their stock housings black to replicate the JDM cars. I personally don't think it looks great on the CL... but I may change my mind when I see it in person. Point is, its a definate step in OUR direction. Meaning, its a styling trait that was definately aimed at appealing toward the crowd that makes up the majority of this forum.
The non-fogs... we all bitched that they sucked anyway! countless numbers of you have said "why did Acura bother with these things". Granted, they should have just given us real fogs, but... who knows... maybe they will as a dealer option. Point is... we cant fault Acura for taking them out... cuz it doesnt make a difference either way.
The body color accents... you guys all worship the CLK430, and pretty much any car with a tuner package. The thing is... most of those cars all have body color accents included in the "sports" package. It is, yet again, geared toward the sporty crowd. Look at the Jaguar S-Type R and the new X-Type sport, they both have the same treatment, body color grill/handles. This is a clear sign that Acura is trying to keep up with trends.
The interior trim... you all hated the bowling ball anyway. The painted trim is not a BAD thing. You don't see many other manufacturers putting in REAL aluminum trim. Almost all of them have PAINTED trim. Especially for this and coming model years. Most new cars, even high-end ones like BMW, have either "titanium look trim" (which this is) or body color trim. Either way its all painted plastic. Were not alone.
(although most others have the OPTION of real wood)
most importantly, they gave us the 6spd, and the great gear ratios we all feared it would lack.
What Im saying is. Be happy, they made it significantly sportier, without alienating other new buyers. They gave us something fresh to read about until the COMPLETE REDESIGN comes in a year or two.

2003 Acura CL
As the enthusiast market keeps ratcheting up performance levels, Acura has breathed new spark into the CL for 2003 with styling and mechanical enhancements. The Type-S-exclusive 3.2-liter V-6 will now be offered with a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission. Coupes fitted with the six-speed stick shift also benefit from a new limited-slip differential that uses a fear system to properly route torque to side with the most traction. The interior has been updated to accommodate the manual gearbox, include a hand-operated parking brake, new cupholder, revised instrument cluster, and optional OnStar communications service.

Right on
Both of you guys said it very well ... I still have a few lingering questions:
1) When are the pricing and dealer options announced? I will call my dealer tomorrow AM and see what they know.
2) Fog lights - If Acura gave real ones ... they would be an option - this is the case on all the Honda/Acura products I can think of that do this. Make sense?
3) Cupholders should be interesting to see how they fit them in there and what design they are
4) Is it just me or do the perforations in the leather look smaller? Perhaps to address the seat worms?
5) When do you think we can expect a road test by C&D or Motor Trend or other? I would think in the next 1-2 months - yeah?
6) What is "revised" in the instrument cluster as said by Motor Trend article?
Just a few thoughts ... I am psyched as I bet this thing is gonna look smokin in person.

One more thing ... my Acura dealership better hook me up with some cool stuff for jumping in early on the 6MT ... A cool CL Type S t-shirt and/or jacket, cool key chain, and other cool Acura schwag comes to mind

you babies need to stop whining!
first off, the only people that are even gonna notice the antennae are the picky fucks from this forum.
second, its worth it for the OnStar...
and it will all be made up for when people get in your car and see you have both ONSTAR and NAVI...
and not only will your car find and lead you and your passenger to your favorite restaurant... but your personal concierge will make reservations for you and insure your night isnt hampered by something stupid like locking yourself outta the car.
plus, its more buttons inside, BUTTONS ARE COOL!

My only problems:
Why the same tires??????????????????????????????????????????
I really wanted to see 18" rims.
I'd really like to see that horsepower boost.
I can live with everything else.

wait till the full redesign for a HP boost.
18s??? not many cars have 18s from the factory. Be happy it gets 17s... most dont. and we were some of the first.
if you want big wheels, go aftermarket, they always look better anyway

I wonder how easy it'll be to black out the chrome behind the orange after clearing the lights? If the finish is like those black chrome emblems, it's going to be tricky. I still want them though.
I think the updates look great on light colors, especially on that white one.
The Q45 and 330 offer 18" wheels as options. Don't know about the IS300 though.

1) The antenna stands out like a sore thumb on white and silver.
2) The three OnStar buttons are on the rearview mirror.
3) It's not integrated with the Navi (TeleAid is integrated with COMAND).
4) It's analog not digital which guarantees its obsolescence.
Other than that, it's really cool.

Even Mercedes Without the Cellular Phone Option have the option of using the "wrench" button for Roadside Assistance, and the "i" button for any type of information, such as weather, directions, hotel, car rental reservations etc......and of course when stranded the SOS/TeleAid button

Tele Aid Uses Global Positioning System (GPS) Satellites and A Cellular Link To Provide 24-Hour Contact With Mercedes-Benz For Information, Roadside Assistance, or Emergency Aid, Including Automatic Collision Notification With Exact Location, Model and Color If Airbag or Pretensioner Deploys, Anti-Theft Alarm Activation Notification, Stolen Vehicle Tracking, Remote Unlocking Service, and Concierge Services For Personal Arrangements Including Reservations and Event Tickets (Tele Aid Requires Subscription For Service, Airtime, and Connection Charges; Subscription Includes One Year Monitoring and Connection Charges and 30 Minutes Airtime) (Standard)

5. The protruding, easily scratchable rims have been replaced by a recessed design that they can cast. You guys gotta remember that Acura rim designs are subject to more significant cost constraints (takes a bit of time to explain the business theory of that) than aftermarket designs, which impinges on casting techniques and die designs.

I don't see design R&D being a real factor here since ENKEI would be utilizing their already extensive knowledge in manufacturing wheels. It is their core competence. There's a lot more you can do with a one-piece forged wheel than what has been presented, IMO.
Cheers!

My Final Opinion....
1. I like the new tail lights
2. I like the 6 speed and all its goodies
3. I like the Headlights
4. I kinda like the body collered grill
5. I dont like the onstar antenna but i wouldnt get that anyway
6. I dont like the aluminum interior, i like the bowling ball better
7. I kinda like the front, but would like the road lamps better
8. I dont like the new rims, but as i asked in another post, can you change these you think with the current rims or would that cause some kinda conflict??? Cause if you could that would be the first thing i do.
9. Like the acura symbol on the stearing wheel and the type-s shift thingy bellow the shifter
10. Dont like the same tires.
All in all i do like it enough to buy it though, will be talking to my dealership soon.
