Keyed door repainted

Picked up my 6sp on Friday from the body shop. Back in January after having the car for 6 days, someone keyed my door. the shop did a nice job but get this. The bill was $840 to fix the door! Essentially just refinishing it. Seems like alot of money to paint a door.

Did they mix gold into the paint? Wow, that does seem pricy - But now its over and done with, at least its fixed.

Good luck w/ it.

Didn't you ask how much it was going to be before you had the work done?

Insurance est. was for $390. They are asking the insurance co. for an additional $450.

I paid the first $300 due to deductable.

Definitely an inflated price. I scratched up my door really bad this winter from a collision, dented the rear driver's side wheel well too, and they blended most of the rear door, and rear quarter panel ... and the entire job ran $750 (including a new rear door 'trim'). They did an excellent job too, paint was an exact match and the car looked brand new when I got it back. I sure hope your door looks better than brand new for that price!

Hey, I know paint, both powder and liquid, and you just got raped!

Afew years ago, some punk kid shot my car with a bb or pellet gun, and knocked the paint off down to the zinc, about the size of a small pea. Anyway, it required a small amount of bondo, and bondo always takes two coats. The damage was on the front fender, just before the door. They had to repaint the color coat, and the clear coat from the front headlight to the top of the rear wheel well. Cost was $425, but remember, this was five years ago.

If I were you, I would print three copies of this entire thread. Send a copy to the bodyshop, another to your insurer, and another to NAII (National Association of Independent Insurers), who watch for fraud.
