Key Scratch

Hello all,

After an incident yesterday at a store. I came back to the parking lot
and found that someone had key scratch my car.

What can I do?
What is an estimation price to fix it?
Can I do it myself?

Please help I just bought this car.

Thank you

Try the scratch out products at your local auto parts, if that does not solve the problem you most likely will need to have the section re painted.

how big is the scratch? How deep?

had a scratch on my gloss coat, and my body guy lightly wet sanded it then used a rubbing compound and buffed it right out.

did it for free too.

on a deeper scratch you could use touchup paint & this stuff called touch-up magic i got from the dealer that smooths out the paint a couple of minutes after it dries.

their is also the touch-up paint pen, that has paint on one side and clear coat on the other. haven't used it, so i couldn't tell you how well it works.

If your car got keyed, all over, then you should go to a professional.

Dayum that sucks...I would recommend a good paint and body shop for something that deep.

Man I feel bad for you, what kind of incident took place before the scratch happened? Did you have an argument or took somebody's parking space?

Well were both in a shopping center looking for a parking spot. He spotted a parking spot and I guess he thought I was going to take it but I pass it. But I find another not too far from where he and his wife park. Whille walking towards the store he stares me down. So I ask him, "is everything ok". All he does is repeat what i said to him. Then his wife comes and starts asking whats going on, yelling and and getting rude. But I ignore it and walk in the store. Then I bump into them in the store and the wife continues talking stuff. So I look at the husband and tell him to step out side so we can fight because i couldnt fight the wife. But he fakes like he is and walks back in. So I go about my business and finish my shopping and they left. When I got to my car i saw the key scratches.

What a piece of chicken sh*t coward idiot, do you remember what he drives and what he looks like? With that kind of attitude someday he's going to get his ass kicked or shot including the wife.

Cool

Guess who won that argument? Unfortunately, there are so many A-holes in this world. They don't have the gonads to face you. Never worth fighting over parking. I never have a problem, because I always park sooooo from everyone. I hate door dings. My

Find a Color Match francise locally- they will re-do the trunk for $125 total in less than a day. No hassle, no wait, usually quality work. Trunks are easier to match than doors.

That sucks. Sorry about your car. Hope it's not too deep and you can buff most of it out. I would rather drive around for an hour to find a spot than fight over one. People are retarded.

OMG.. i feel for you man...

if someone did that to my car i would put TWO size TEN foot prints on his side panels.

3 rules in life.
Dont fuck with someone's
1) family
2) home
3) car

Too bad you didn't get his license plate down just in case.

If you're in Canada, call these guys - they'll buff out the scratches and color match the
paint in 3 hours, on the spot for cheap but really professional job.

http://www.colorworks.ca/

They did my car once and you could NOT tell the difference. They do an amazing job.
I'm sure there's an equivalent of these guys in the US.

No, it was not worth arguing over. Thats why I didnt. I walked away and ignored him and his wife when we were outside of the store. It's when she got in my face in the store is when I was ready to whip a55. I didnt take the parking spot. i passed it and found another. I just didnt like how she was in my face in front of all the people in the store thats when i wanted to whip his a55 in place of hers.

My younger brother is getting his whole car painted so i will go with him to see how much it will cost for the trunk. I am thinking it cant be more than 200 dollars.

I am finding out whether the shopping center was able to catch it on tape. The store caught the argument on tape but i need to the outside cameras to catch him scratching my car to have a case.

I live in MD and Liberty Mutual is my insurer. I have comprehensive insurance. Does anyone know if I file a claim if my premium will increase.

Here's what I would do. Explain the situation to the store manager, and ask to see outside surveillance tapes.

Scenario #1: store manager refuses to show you tapes or check. After a bit of convincing, and perhaps threatening to call the cops, I'm sure he'll show them to you, or at least check them himself.

Scenatio #2: You see the guy or his wife do the scratch on your trunk on video. I don't know if vandalism is a criminal offence, but I'm pretty sure it is. Take the video to the cops and let them do their job.

Scenatio #3: If you don't see the guy or his wife doing it, but maybe you can see the plates on their car. Once you have the plate, it shouldn't be too hard to trace who's it is. Go knock on his door, tell him you know they did it and have video proof (even if you don't), and ask for 300$ (or whatever it costs to have it fixed). Bring a few rather imposing friends with you. Make him shit his pants and you may just get your $$$ for the paint job.

Scenario #4: You can't see nor the act, nor the plates. You're kind of SOL. Go through your insurance or pay out of your wallet. Let karma do the ass kicking for you later on in that idiotic couples' life.

If that happened to me, that's how I would proceed. Good luck man, keep us posted.

It shouldn't, since vandalism is a "not-at-fault" claim. Check with them the cost of the deductible for your comprehensive coverage --> it may be more than just having your trunk repainted.

I know how you feel. At least it wasn't all around the car like I've had happen to me a few years back. You can see it is pretty deep. Not as deep as the bullet wound I would want to put into this f-ckn loser.
