K40 Radar Detector?

Has anyone used or heard much about these? I stopped by a local car audio place and asked if they install V1's (they do for about $40) and he mentioned the K40 as a comparable detector. Gave me some info on both. Not sure if he's just pushing it b/c I can buy the K40 from him (have to mail order the V1 and they only get the install $$) or if it is a legit competitor to the V1. It's about $120 cheaper. Thanks.

i want the hard wire install so i don't have the stupid-looking power cord hanging down the dash. there's also a remote indicator display that comes with the V1 (optional) that i would ahve them hard wire and put near the speedo so everything is invisible.

p-man, it takes 5 minutes to install and hardwire a V1...even with the remote display, there are many guys here that have it and have done it in less than 15-20 minutes all together with the remote display, on this site, we even have detailed pics of how to hardwire it and where to put the wire, etc....dont pay for that, its just throwing money away

I had the K40 for a little over a year. It was my first detector. Still the same dash model they list today. It was ok. Did it's job. They have a deal if you get a ticket with it, they will pay the ticket. But they don't tell you it's only good for 25 & under the limit. Strangly the only speeding ticket I got was a 109, in a 70 in my boss's E55. 39 over, so they didn'y pay the ticket. The K40 did nothing to save me from that. Although the heated windshield in the Benz might have been the cause of that. Can't say for sure. At any rate the V1, or passport 8500 are the only 2 top dogs now days. If you look at anything else, they will be lower then these 2.

Hmm, the fine print says that you only get that deal if the ticket is because your radar did not detect the oncoming radar....
