I was out running around this morning, and I was headed to pick up some lunch. I pull up to a GTP at a light, and the dude looks over at me. Then he proceeds to point down the road, which by the way is 55 mph. He smiles and revs. it a bit.

So... I turn off VSA, throw it into D1 and wait... Light turns green...


And I'm GONE!!! Best launch I've had yet with the car... Through D1, then D2 and halfway through D3, he's in my rear view mirror the WHOLE time... I shut her down at about 85. He pulls up along side of me, gives me a , then smiles and heads off.

Ah... What a way to kick off your 25th birthday.

Nice kill! I ran a GTP and he got the early jump on me until about 40, then I walked him like a dog.

Man you guys talk some good races, and while I dont doubt these races actually took place, you guys are running against some pathetic GTP drivers if you're smoking them like you say you are. Also, are you guys forgetting to put your strip times in your sig? Oh, you haven't run them have you? Most stock GTP's with capable drivers fall between 14.6-14.9. And while I never ran mine stock, 2 easy mods got me a 14.3 so I have no doubt I would've ran 14.6-14.9 stock. What are most CL/TL Type-S's running stock? High 14's maybe?

You guys are on crack if you think you can beat a GTP out of a light....those things are NUTS through 1st gear....I have trouble hanging with them from 0-40 in my maxima 5-speed...and I won't even talk about what I can do to a CL-S off the line.

Hey TypeSkiller..........that is an unreal time for a Maxima, is that on NOS or something (turbo, SC'd)? I dont think I've ever seen or heard of an NA Max that quick. And you need to run that GS430 of yours, Ive read they are in the 13's stock....that's sweet!! A bunch of us from many different forums are going up to Union Grove on April 10th to try and hopefully get some cold weather runs in, you game? If you cant make that maybe you'd like to meet up with me for a little stoplight to stoplight fun......I'll let you pick the car as I'd love to run against both your rides!! Let me know.

Where do you live? I am in Hinsdale and am interested in going to Union Grove. Track is in awesome condition, since they just repaved it.

yea...the 14.0 is on a 50-shot with LOTS of wheel spin...If I actually could hook up off the line, I'd be in the 13s on the 50-shot EASY...a few guys with N/A maxs are in the 14.2-14.3 range with just a few bolt-ons....but they go to the track ALL THE TIME, and put in 100+ runs getting their launchs down. I would definitely be interested in going to the track on April 10th...the max has a little more of something this year...so I should be looking at low13s and POSSIBLY high 12s with an INSANE 60ft time.

The GS isn't a track car, but it may go sometime this year....

Stock GS430 running 13 ahhhh I dont think so, and I beleive the GS400 is faster than GS430. I've seen GS400 run at the Battle of the Import last year his best is 14.6-14.7(consistent) running 16" tires with sticky tires..

I got pictures of a black GS400 yesterday at the big supra event down here running low 15s with a intake. Hmmmm...I don't call that al that fast.

That Black GS400 from battle of the imports is one of my buddies that I go to the track with...he was running 14.2 at battle...I think you're a little confused.

BTW- this thread is about GTPs....NOT Lexus GSs...let's get back on topic.

I didn't probably see his 14.2 run but I witness the 14.6~14.7... What kind of mods does he got, If I could remember his car is pretty quiet. I didn't had a chance to take a peek under the hood..

Good job on the kill, those GTP's can be very very HARD to take down. I've raced some with the GTP club here in Dallas. I've won one race, just edged him out, and lost three. BTW, if they have a $30 pulley mod. Our stock cars won't touch them, unless they totally flub the launch.

That said, I'm still super happy with my 4 door CL

FWIW, I had a chance to run a GS430 and I totally screwed up the launch and blew the whole race while he tore away from me impressively. I went home and looked it up because I was curious and www.car-stats.com has it at 5.9 0-60 and 13.9 @ 103mph. So somebody, somewhere got 13's out of one. And they have the GS400 at 14.8 so no the 400 is not faster than the 430, not even close.


As far as Union Grove on the 10th goes here's the low-down for anybody that might want to go. The gates open at 6pm and the racing the whole first week is free, you just have to pay the 10 bucks for the spectator fee. If any CL/TL-s want to go that would be sweet, it would be nice to see some classy imports there......some nights you feel like if you have to see/hear another Civic run you'll scream.


And if there's anybody who cant make it but would still like to have some friendly competition, if you're in the Chicago area I'm always game for a run. Id love to run against a CL/TL-s that has at least headers and a CAI (against a stock one wouldn't be fair or a good race). How's the stock exhaust on your cars? Is it restrictive? Decent aftermarket for that? If anybody is game drop me an e-mail or a note in one of these 3 GTP threads you guys have going. gtpguy97@worldnet.att.net

I ran with a newer GTP once in my TL-S from 60-110. I wouldn't really call it kill, but I sssssssslowly pulled ahead when I shut it down (4th gear...) My car was a couple of feet in front. We were both even when we both gunned it at the same time.

I guess it is possible that he is a bad driver and doesn't know how to push the gas pedal all the way to the floor, but I doubt it.

It seems obvious to me that a stock GTP and TL/CL-S are pretty evenly matched.

My car is stock except the tires.

I ran a new bonneville ssei 3 times from a start. That was a Kill.

i never met a GTP i didnt smoke... my 1/8th times put me at about 14.4 and my best '60 is 2.203...
man wouldnt we love to get some 99+ GT's ,,,GTP's '02 max and '02 altima's all together for some good runs at a track....

Having a GS 400 and just recently raced a GTP (and a CL-S all the time) the CL-S and GTP are pretty even.

We were at a light where 3 lanes turn into 2 and the GTP THOUGHT he was going to get in front.

Nada, but it was no smoking, I was only ahead 1/2 a car length before he had to get behind me to merge (ran outta real estate).
We topped out at 80+ and the street had a slight incline. About the same length as beating a CL-S 0-60.

Grand Prix's have some easy mods too, it is a very quick car (Richard Petty Edition has 300hp).

I have taken a stock GTP in my car (intake) launching w/ shiiiity stock tires, several times... it's fairly close, but I always take him...

On the other hand, I have raced a modded one.... maybe $2G's in mods and he blew my F'in doors off. Not even funny.

I think the conclusion is this:

Stock CL-S edges a stock GTP.

GTP w/$1000 in mods smokes beats a CL-S w/$1000 in mods
