Just picked up a new radar detector(Not V1). Just a quick question...

Hey there. Now before you guys start flaming me for not getting a Valentine 1, I frankly don't think the ends justify the means...it's not like I'm speeding 50 mph over the speed limit, I just like having this thing for the comfort(knowing that I'm not COMPLETELY naked...). I picked up the Uniden LRD 6599SWS radar/laser detector, which normally costs $179.99. However, I guess they were having a sale today, and I managed to pick one up for $79.99!!! Today was the last day of the sale though, so you had better hurry if you wanna pick one of these guys up... It has 360 degree laser protection, and X, K, and Ka protection...so basically it has all I need.

Now the quick question : Does tint affect the range/effectiveness of this model, or all radar detectors in general? Thanks guys!

And lets not let this topic turn into a Valentine 1 supporter forum now...

Thanks!

Okay, okay, biting my tongue.

Tint should affect all detectors to some extent. It should depend on the tint more than the detector, the metalic tints are by far the worst. Your stock tint should be okay, if you have custom, metalic tinting the performance of the detector could be seriously compromised.

Check the V1 website - no joke. There is a Q&A section where they address this. I think it refers mostly to it affecting laser coverage.

I once asked a biker friend of mine why he spent so much on his helmet. He said," If you've got a $50 head, buy a $50 helmet."

And to think I spent over 4,000 dollars on my Home Theater speakers when I could have bought one of those “Home Theater in a Box” jobs for 299 w/ a free set of touch lights.

I got to start keeping my eyes open for great “sales” like the one mentioned above.

Sorry for my off-topic humor. It’s not meant to flame, I just ramble sometimes.
