Just picked her up from the shop - Timing Belt +
I finally sent my CL-S to the shop after having it sit for over a year due to the timing belt needing to be changed. Economy didn't help with saving up money to do so, but I finally did it. Total came to $846.90. Which included water pump, oil change, and new battery. They tried to recharge the old one, but it just wouldn't take. The throttle body also needed cleaning.
Here is the breakdown on price for those of you looking to compare. I took it to a local place that has a good reputation called VolksDoktor.
Breakdown:
PARTS
Battery - 112.95
Oil Filter - 5.75
Oil - 20.94
Timing Kit - 94.43
Water Pump - 117.43
Antifreeze - 13.35
Belt - 15.22
Belt - 15.09
Shop Supplies - 8.39
LABOR
Timing Belt - 347.50
Oil Change - 20.00
Clean Throttle Body - 34.75
Renew battery - 17.38
Total Plus tax - 846.90

I just had a similar deal with a blown motor so my CL had been sitting since last October.
Just picked it up this last Saturday so I can safely say I know how you feel man!!!
Congrats on getting the car back on the road!

Thanks guys! Yeah, I noticed the price on the battery too, but my enjoyment that the car was back in action was much greater than the concern over price. It really feels good having her back especially since I was driving a Saturn Vue 4cyl in the mean time. I think i drove around town for a couple of hours just out of pure enjoyment!

so 4 hours for the whole service (t-belt, water pump, seals, etc) or just the timing belt?
Just that the place I was considering taking my car to, to get the service done, doesn't have loaner vehicles, and everyone I know works days. I'm trying to assess how I'm going to do it all if it takes several hours. Hopefully I won't have to sit in the waiting room for too long...
So it's either that or... take it to the dealer... Dealer quoted me at <$800 for belts, pump, inspection. I'm going to do the spark plugs myself, probably the oil too.

yea should only take them 4 hours to do it.. on the bill tho it'll say like 6 or 7 probably tho.. so they might want it for the day just so you wouldn't know how long they actually worked on ur car.

I have never understood the prices people pay for this service on this site. I took my first CLS to the Honda dealership in Spartanburg, SC and got it done for $478. And yes, they did everything the Acura dealership would have done.

Either they rang it up wrong or they didn't do all the work you think they did because that price wouldn't even cover the labor at most dealerships.

A buddy of mine is a tech at a honda dealer...He says it shouldnt take more than 4 hours maximum to do timing belt, water pump, tensioner, etc....And if it does, they should not be working on your car, b/c they dont know what they are doing.
So just keep that in mind, dealerships will rip you off.
Get a quote from a local jap shop for labor only, buy the parts from Honda.

problem with a DLR is they alot a certain amount of time for each job and the tech gets it done faster than that all the time and the customer is the one paying for all those bogus hours....
