Just curious... does drag racing void your warranty?

I'm just curious to know if your dealer finds out you took your car to the track if that would some how void your warranty? Has anyone told their dealer about experiences at the track. I recently switched to a different Acura dealer because they are VERY mod friendly. I'm assuming they wouldnt' care too much.

You'd have to go back and read the warranty. I think there is something in there about off-road use or inappropriate use. If there is, then it might void whatever when wrong as a result of doing it. IOW, if you go to the track today and then tomorrow your power windows don't work.....

I'm going to the dealer because my IMRC is not working. I was going to say that my times at the track were slow so that lead me to investigate the problem. Maybe I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Not a good idea, don't mention anything about the track when you take your car in for warranty work.

Just tell them that your car seems slower than it did before. Whatever you do I strongly advise you against mentioning your times at the track.

Thanks guys... I spoke with them over the phone and didn't mention it. I just said it seemed a little slower on the top end.

Tischer Acura in Laurel, MD installs all Comptech, HONDATA, and GReddy parts for Acuras. They recently did a Comptech supercharger on a CL-S. I saw lots of the cars sitting in their service department with Comptech exhaust (that's the only mod I can tell without opening the hood).

Just tell them it feels 'funny'. Don't mention slow or fast... say it feels 'different' from when you first purchased it. Also allude to the fact that it MIGHT be the IMRC... you found out from the Acura-CL.com board that it is a possible failure.

1. Don't wear the t-shirt with the picture of your car doing burnouts at the local strip to the dealer.

2. A dealer can get a nice view of thick, black rubber and track gunk when a car is up on a lift. A coat of wax (or other "goop") might be worth applying to strategic locations on the car before heading to the track to keep the build-up down (helps with clean-up).

3. Make sure racing helmet with "Clutch Pack Killer" is not left in the back seat.

Nice there only 1.5hrs from me compared to almost 4hrs for PAA. I might have to make that trip for some installs

I mentioned it at my dealer, and they threw a bitch fit! they wouldn't dare say anything about warranty to me, but I sure as hell regretted mentioning it. In my opinon cars take so much more abuse in stop and go traffic, than they ever would going WOT.

From my experience, Honda is REALLY cool about covering cars under warranty. I ran my 99 Accord regularly and modded it with I/H/E/VAFC/Pullies/Cam Gear. When the tranny went bad, my local Honda dealership fixed it no questions asked under warranty, even though I was about 4k past warranty.

I can only imagine that Acura is the same.

Peace.

That's not Honda, that's just the dealer you go to.

I believe there is something in the contract which voids the warranty if you track your car... so you're better off not saying anything. If you're dealer is cool (like it sounds like they are) you'd probably be OK.. but you're just better off not giving them any out on warranty work.

And it could be!!! I've seen that same dealer (Open Road Honda - Edison,NJ) selling a brand new 99 Civic Si fully modded already a few years ago.

That said, if you find a cool dealer they'll overlook the drag racing.
