my trottle sensor went out...

latley the car has been acting weird, see my other thread...

car would shutter, engin and vsa lights come on etc etc

took it to the dealer to get it scanned and i thought for sure it was the 02 sendor but it came up as the throttle sensor was broken or somethin, they ordered the part and it will be in next week, but i doubt this is really the problem i'm still thinkn its the 02 sensor, but will see

i still get the check engone light every so often, its not on now but it was earlier this morning

will see what happens

jens..

have you ever seen this happen on any cl/tl's you have worked on??

They make you buy a whole new Throttle Body if the sensor goes out!

Try adjusting it first.. might fix your problem.

I think what he (Allmotor) was saying is that, If the throttle sensor goes out, they must replace throttle body.

TPS also known as throttle position sensor ,this part does fail every once in a while .Regardless of what your thoughts may be on the O2 sensor if the dealer read a code for a faulty TPS they will replace that first .Whenever any sensor fails ina modern car the ecu will attempt to substitute the sensor actual values with prestored "rough estimates" of what the sensor ought to be sending to the ecu .This is called "limp home" .Limp home allows a computer driven car to continue to function even if not at full capability untill a repair can be effected to correct the problem .Let the dealer do what they get paid to do and let's see what happens ,my guess is your car will go back to normal .

But what in your extensive automotive experience tells you this?? :P

If a code was set for the TPS; the problem is most likely the TPS. If it were the O2 sensor another code for it would have most likely been present.

I had the same exact symptoms, but the dealer said it was the o2 sensor. I'm gonna have the bung relocated a few degrees to the left to get the sensor away from the oil pan. Now if i keep having the dash lights go off and the shudder, how the hell is the dealer gonna respect that. They are just gonna blame the headers. I've had the shudder since day one. If the throttle sensor is the culprit, let us know darrin.

Intake does not have to removed...
TPS failure doesn't really fail much...and nothing you did caused it...must have been a bad one...poor luck...not your fault. Ya know in 4 years at Acura I've never seen nor replaced a TPS sensor...

Ya know, my car's been running a little rough at idle in the mornings lately. Probably due to the weather, and the fact that she's got 90k on her, and it's about time to do some scheduled maintenance.

why don't they overnight parts...did you ask them. I mean we don't usually unless the car is staying overnight...but if the cust requests them to be overnighted...we do. It doesn't matter to us cause Honda pays for it...we just can't get carried away.

i shouldnt have to ask, my car isnt running properly sometimes and when it acts up its no where near safe to drive so it just common sense to overnite the parts

god .. i could only hope that my TPS would finally go out .. I'm thinken that the TPS would resolve the crappy idle that I have .. and the jerk motions I get from the engine .. which the dealer has said occur in 'brand new showroom vehicles' .. blahhh ..

TPS sensors can fail for a variety of reasons ,faulty seal from the throttle blade shaft allowing dirt to get into the sensor which in turns ruin the pickup on the thing .Excessive vibration can lead to failure ,impact or shock damage can kill it .Bad solder joints on the tiny circuit board .Crud buildup on the connector .17 years in the business and I have seen all of these failures at one time or another .I doubt it is your driving style but I supposes even that could damage it if it were excessive enough .Overall let them replace the fool thing and let's see if the hotrod get's back to feeling good about life .

My car has been doing the same exact thing for the last 4 months on and off. The car will all of sudden drop down to very low revs and then the engine light and the vsa lights come on also when i try to drive the car it shifts at very high rpms.. I then proceed to pull over and turn the car off then back on and the engine light stays on but the vsa turns off and everything is back to normal the car is running fine. This exact situation will occur over and over..I brought it to the dealer asap and they hooked it up to the scanner and it came back as a throttle sensor so I thought ok no problem replace it and everything will be fine. So two weeks later i'm back at the dealer with my moms Tls to get it serviced and i ask where the hell is my part???!!!And the service manager goes on to look up my file and he says to me THERE IS NO THROTTLE SENSOR FOR YOUR CAR!! I'm LIKE WHAT!! I have been waiting for over two weeks with a messed up car for a part that doesn't exist (CUSTOMER SERVICER SUCKS) At least give me a phone call..Well this is nothing, so i bring the car back and they cant find nothing wrong due to the simple fact that the engine light doesn't always stay on. So the service manager tells me hes going to do the recall on the car ( the new Ecu and some other part i forget what it is).. So i go for Round 2 and so far its been a complete failure..As i'm typing this right now its been a MONTH since i brought my car in for the second time and absoletly no phone call or notice in the mail notifying me that my recall parts have come in!! Honestly I will never by another Acura due to the problems i have with this car and my mothers call, Acura Service is a disgrace.. So now i'm still sitting here with a 30,000+ car that shutters, over revs, shifts hard which i brought the car in 4 months ago to get repaired and still no solution! and on my second tranny with 25000 miles..MAYBE ITS THE TRANNY AGAIN!

I had the same exact thing with the 3 dash lights going off and the shudderring. The dealer ran a scan and said the o2 sensor. Then they said the headers were the culprit making contact between the oil pan and o2 sensor wires. Maybe they just saw headers and assumed or found a reason to blame it on the headers. once I get it fixed, I'll see.

How much is this part? and is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to install it myself?

The throttle position sensor is located on the right side of the throttle body, unfortunately it is not sold seperately. You would have to purchase the throttle body assembly.

03 3.2 CL-S (6pd.) Throttle Body:
PN: 16400-PGE-A11
Price: $323.34

01-02 3.2 CL-S
03 3.2 CL-S (5at) Throttle Body:
PN: 16400-PGE-A11
Price:$302.43
