Just Bought OptionRacing Pulley

So I just bought their underdrive crank pulley off their ebay store for $25. I also picked up both Gates belts off Amazon for $30, i gotta say $55 for a pulley and both belts is a great deal. Im just waiting for them to come in and when I install it i'll do a D.I.Y for you guys, since I noticed there isnt a crank pulley D.I.Y for the 2nd gen.

I'll update you guys as soon as they come in

^^ Its not really needed for most cuz it is pretty simple and straight forward. But alot of members might need help with it so I figured I might as well snap a few pics while im installing it and make a DIY for Azine.

Im hoping to get this done next wednesday, the belts should be in this friday but the pulley isnt getting here till early next week.

+1 I had mine sitting around for a long time before I installed it. I love it. Compliments the headers and intake very nicely.

Well breaking off the nut isnt hard with the right tool, a 3/4" air gun (which is wut i'll be using) will pop that sucker off. If you dont have access to an air gun you can use a big breaker bar and slide a pipe over the handle for extra leverage, which = extra torque and put your weight on it and it should come off, and dont forget to soak it in some PB blaster penetrating oil to help the nut come off. As for torquing the nut, you just need a torque wrench set to 180 lb-ft and put a little prybar in the teeth of the flywheel so the pulley doesnt spin when you tighten it.

Well 150 should be fine, they recommend 181 lb-ft on UR's website but I dont think there should be anything wrong with torquing it to 150.

If your car is auto, you put a prybar or small crowbar in the teeth of your flywheel that you get to via a small access panel under your tranny and it will keep the crank from spinning. If your 6spd, you have someone put it into 6th gear and step on the brake(while the car is off) and it will keep the crank from moving while you take the nut off.

Why is it easier to do on a 6 speed cuz mine is auto and im prob gonna get it done tommorrow.
2fast4you where u able to find the belts u needed at a local store cuz tommorrow is the only time the techs have time to do it and i have to pick up the belts locally at like strouss or r and s or pepboys./

Its a little easier to do it on a 6spd cuz its easier to keep the crank pulley from moving while your taking the nut off and putting it back on. All you need to do is have someone sit in the car, put it into gear and step down on the brake, whereas with an auto you have to get to the flywheel under the trans via the access panel and put a crowbar in the teeth to keep the crank from moving.

Or you can spend like $60 and buy the special honda crank nut tool that holds it in place while you take the nut off. But I dont think its worth the money, especially since it only works when your taking the stock pulley off and not when putting the aftermarket pulley on.

As for the belts, your gonna need Gates K060441 and Gates K040425 (if you have the underdrive pulley). They dont need to be gates, but you can take those two numbers I gave you to an auto parts store and they can translate the numbers for you to another brand like Goodyear Gatorbacks and they'll be the same size.

I'm sure it's simple after the fact like changing rotors and pads. But the first time you do anything it's gonna be awkward if you're not familiar. It also seems like a few people have bought the pulley recently so a DIY with pictures for reference is perfect timing so a big to the OP. Knowledge is power.

i also recently got the option pulley and gates belts. i will be trying bigmark's method of holding the crank pulley in place on my auto cl. i don't even have a breaker bar or torque wrench (do i need a really long torque wrench? i'm leaning towards just getting a small one) and will be getting both soon. can't wait to install...

You can do that for the 6 speed as well. Thats what I did. Hitting the brakes while in gear didnt work for me.

The easiest way I find to break the crank pulley bolt loose is to put a breaker bar on it and have the end on the ground. Then pulse the starter a few times. Much quicker.

Yea, but that takes mega balls of steel to do confidently. Ive done a few crank pulleys before and ive never had to use that method. I think the starter method is like a last resort when all else fails, but ive always been able to get it off other ways.

My favorite way is to put a breaker bar on the nut and have the handle angled to the bottom right. Then you put a jack under the very base of the breaker bar handle and slowly jack it up while you lower the car at the same time and you'll either A.) Get the nut off, or B.) Break your breaker bar, its also kinda a last resort method but its worked for me in the past.

Dumb question .. what does this offer, especially the belts, versus OEM?? Rev faster? Is it worth doing for an auto?? About to have timing belt, water pump, etc changed out and if this mod is worth doing, it would be perfect timing (no pun intended)!!

gives you faster revs should add around 10hp and torque unorthodoxs website says it give you 11-15 the option is basically a copy of the unorthodox

Yes its worth it. The car is much more responsive and it frees up some power.

My cp bolt was on there pretty damn tight. I bought the crank pulley tool and that did work. I tried my impact wrench, no dice. The starter was the last resort, and it worked.

Fuel pump fuse. Just do it the awesome way and crank that bitch a few times.

Seriously though, don't hit it like your trying to start the car. A quick pulse. Really quick. A few of them usually does it.

I wont be home until 5 or so. The owners manual may have it. The fuse panel lid may even say it.

Power steering pump has a tensioner bolt on the top. Turn that out and it should loosen. If it doesnt move, the two nuts holding the pump to the bracket are probably really tight, so loosen them as well, they are on the bottom of the pump. You need to remove part of the engine mount bracket to get that belt out.

The alternator/a/c compressor belt has a tensioner on it. Take a 14mm (I think) wrench and put it on the bolt that is in the center of the tensioner. Turn it like you are loosening it. Slide the belt out. The tensioner is spring loaded, so let it back down easily.

Sorry Mark if I am jacking your thread.
