just about to hit 30k miles....do i really need to spend 500 bucks

for a full maintenance checkup of all the fluids and such. what are the main things i should have checked and whatnot, but not pay 500 bucks. what should i have requested to look at?

i get a regularily schedule oil change every 3 months or so and the car is very well kept.

and i know this has been talked about before, but im at work and i dont have time to search.

lazy ass. j/k.

Rotation, oil change, tranny flush, air filter (if needed), the rest is basically checks. They also include a fuel injector cleaner, but I don't think it's necessary. Definitely, do NOT pay $500. Ask them to itemize the services the pick and choose.

out of the 30,000 miles service, what are the things that definitely need to be done, but can be done yourself to save from stealership labor? i'm assuming the air filter is easy enough to change, right?

like phipark said most of them are just checks and most of the things you can do yourself and save the money.

Take a look in the owners manual to see what is required as opposed to what the dealer want's to sell you.

Trans flush with the automatic, oil change, air and cabin filters are what Acura wants. The inspections shouldn't take more than 1 hour of shop time to do them, I'll pay the dealer no more than $100 to do them.

You can do asearh here for 30K in thread titles only and find some great stuff. I posted in a 30K thread a couple of days ago.

Check out acura.com's owner link. That have the maintence items listed too.

I think the pollen filter needs to be changed @30K too.

I got quoted $500, so I bought the Helms manual for $75 instead There's a new Acura Dealer opening up near my house, so I'll give them a call for a quote, but I'm leaning towards servicing my CLS myself from now on...

Check the items listed and go from there, however, I would do the cabin air filter, I was amazed at how dirty mine was, and it's very easy to do

Make certain the brake fluid is changed out .The stuff Honda uses has a short life and tends to turn into mud if left unattended for any amount of time .

Agreed.... $200 at most for $30k... Skip all the "checks" and just get oil, tranny, brake, etc...

It shouldn't... Just use the fluid specified by the manual (acura/honda fluid)

My dealer did a tranny flush at 7,000 and 30,000 miles, not one hiccup with my tranny yet and I have almost 48,000 on it. Definitely don't spend 500 on that service, its not worth it. If you want them to check all those things, just tell them you know how long it takes to check all those things, and if they aren't going to give you a reasonable estimate to forget about it and then tell them what you want done. I wouldn't pay more than $200.

well i dont have to worry about the following:
-oil change (just got it done)
-air filter (clean)
-tire rotation (done about a month ago)
-rotors (were cut for the 1st time 2 months ago)

so basically the main thing i would need is a tranny flush. what about oil filter, other little misc things.

DO NOT DO A TRANNY FLUSH.

This is only done to solve problems. Any reputable transmission shop will tell you this. The Acura dealership in Clearwater told me this also.

You should only do a DRAIN and filter change.
